Earlier today during Avavav’s Autumn/Winter 2024 show in Milan, models took to the runway as trash was thrown from the front rows and online hate comments aimed toward the brand played on a loop as the backdrop with the aim to “pre-empt the trolls this season”. It’s not the first time the brand has leant into online critique, last year Avavav sent unfinished looks made out of post-its down the Milan runway, with slogans like “I didn’t have time to finish this”. Today’s show is the latest in a line of #fashion and beauty brands leaning in to embrace online criticism and turn it into satire over the last year as consumers seek to align with the honest, unpolished and fun messaging.
