There's an old saying about all advice being autobiographical, and I feel like that's doubly true with technology choices. Even so, I always enjoy learning about the in-depth technical decisions that go into a product. Especially when they represent choices that I wouldn't have made, or technologies that I'm not super familiar with. It's a great way to understand the nuances of various pieces of technology, and evolve my understanding of their strengths (and weaknesses). It all started with a post that said "Down with tipping!". I'm a veteran bartender and that did NOT sit well with me. Instead of crafting a rage-reply, I decided to widen my own lens and explore tipping's history and culture. Holy smokes, it turned into quite the project. Here are screen captures of our upcoming paycheck tracker, a vital tool for hospitality industry workers. Due to insufficient cash flow, establishments no longer pay their tipped employees their credit card tips at the end of each shift. Instead, these earnings are included in their paycheck every two weeks. Without tracking their earnings after each shift, employees are left unaware of their paycheck amount and unable to verify its accuracy. Not anymore...
