The promise of America has always been Opportunity. At Bandana, we believe that the promise of the American Dream — that hard work can lead to success — should be achievable for all. Our mission is to empower both hourly and entry level workers through transparency and trust by building tools that improve their livelihoods. Since January 2024, we’ve helped over 150,000 New Yorkers search for better jobs. But this is only the beginning. We're excited to announce that we've raised additional funding with our existing investor partners, who also believe in our vision for a better America. The journey continues. We are laser-focused on building the best way to find better jobs with better benefits and maximum transparency. This is a small glimpse at our broader vision: To improve the livelihoods of everyday Americans and reignite the belief in the American Dream. To help more Americans climb higher on the ladder of opportunity. Read more at Techcrunch here: https://lnkd.in/euHd--5Z Timothy Makalinao Caleb Lee Larry Z.

Co-Founder & CEO at Bandana - Hiring Purposeful and Mission Driven Engineers!

I am excited to announce an additional $8.5M investment into Bandana (Bandana.com), led by General Catalyst, with follow-on investments from Craft Ventures and Triple Impact Capital. The promise of America 🇺🇸 has always been one of opportunity. From the early settlers seeking new lives to immigrants arriving with dreams of a better future and the rise of millions out of poverty during the Industrial Revolution, America's history is rich with stories of hope and progress. The Civil Rights Movement further solidified this promise, ensuring that opportunities were available to all, regardless of race or background. However, today, many still find the path to prosperity challenging, with barriers of inequity and privilege seeming more formidable than ever. At Bandana, we believe that the American Dream — the idea that hard work leads to success — should be within everyone's reach. Our mission is to empower hourly and entry-level workers through transparency and trust, by building tools that improve their livelihoods. By leveling the playing field with transparent information and providing reliable support, we aim to help everyday Americans achieve their dreams and create brighter futures for themselves and their families. Since January 2024, we've helped over 150,000 New Yorkers find better jobs, proving that our efforts are just the beginning of what we can accomplish together. We will continue to accelerate our growth and support even more Americans. Our focus remains on building the best platform for finding better jobs with comprehensive benefits and maximum transparency while also expanding into New Jersey, the rest of New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. This is just the first step in our broader vision to improve livelihoods and reignite the belief in the American Dream. A special shout out to my co-founders Caleb Lee and Larry Z. and to our incredible team here Vicky Xu, Elana Shen, Yong Li (Emily) Dich, Paulo Makalinao, Adrian Abeijon, Brian Qian, and Rudy Ramnath. Thank you to the investors who have believed in us from day one and continue to double down, specifically Niko Bonatsos, Max Rimpel, Lainy Painter Singh, Bennett Thomas, and Justin Smithline. Bandana.com looks more like Zillow every day (we launched saved searches last week!) In housing, things like price, location, estimated mortgage payments, and directions all matter. In job search, things like pay, location, estimated taxes, and directions all matter Zillow built transparency in the housing market, and Bandana is building transparency and TRUST in the job market. FOR THE PEOPLE!!!!

💭 Rebuilding the American Dream by bringing heart back to hiring | Co-Founder at Bandana

I’ve read over 10,000 job descriptions in 2024 so far. Here’s what makes the top 0.1% stand out (even without a big brand name): Hook first: Start with what the opportunity is for the reader, NOT what you’re looking for. “Looking for communicative, energetic retail managers” only says what YOU want. What does the job-seeker want? What does this job unlock for them? Put yourself in their shoes. Speed to read: Should take 5 seconds to skim your JD, not 5 minutes. HR team say you gotta. Include a tl:dr summary if you need to - bullet points, not paragraphs. Growing or gone: "Is this a dead end job, or a stepping stone?" That’s what every reader is thinking. Give them the answer Values matter: According to Qualtrics, 56% of employees care about the company’s core values. What are yours? Transparency builds trust: You’d be surprised how many jobs are missing EXACT pay (not this “$16-30 an hour” bs), benefits (including the minimum hours you need to work to qualify!!), and shift times. Oh, and exact work location - would you look for a home without an address? Do this, and you're already at the top of the pack. #hiring #jobdescription #recruiting #retailrecruiting

💭 Rebuilding the American Dream by bringing heart back to hiring | Co-Founder at Bandana

Indeed is a dinosaur. We need a viable replacement. Pricing is through the roof, quantity > quality, and it’s so saturated with paid ads that you usually have to go to page 4 or 5 to get to the first non-paid job. Here in New York City, it’s actually even worse. This is because the narrowest search radius on Indeed is 5 miles. It’s about 5 miles from Brooklyn to the Bronx. 5 miles from LaGuardia Airport (Queens) to Central Park (Manhattan). Those are 1-2 hour commutes — each way — on a good day. It doesn’t matter how good your new hire is if they spend 2-4 hours commuting daily. They’re not going to stay long. What has your experience been using Indeed?

For people first, above all else. Over time, and as trust builds, everything else naturally follows.

If the job boards that have been around since the 90’s made their product with the intention of helping people — rather than making money — they’d end up making a lot more money.
