As we started to open up to each other about our health journeys and talking to women about their challenges with hormonal imbalances, we realized there is a huge problem that no one is talking about. Rampant hormonal imbalances are not normal, yet almost everyone experiences them. So often, women are given birth control, pain medication, or told that they might have difficulty conceiving without looking at all of the lifestyle and nutritional factors that contribute to hormonal havoc. We realized that it was time to do something about this epidemic of hormonal imbalances in an affordable, accessible, and natural way. And that’s why we created beeya - to offer a food-based approach to whole-body health.

    We can’t be perfect, but it’s still good to know how the items we use most could be contributing to how we feel everyday… If you’ve been struggling with hormonal imbalances but still use these items, it might be worth making swaps—try it and report back to us 🫡 Let’s get into it… 👉 Takeout containers: Many contain bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical that can interfere with hormone regulation in the body. Bring your own glass container if you usually have leftovers when eating out, and aim to eat less hot foods from plastic or foam containers. 👉 Receipt paper: Thermal receipt paper often contains bisphenol S (BPS) or BPA, both of which are known to disrupt endocrine function. Say no to receipts and get them sent to your email when possible, and be sure to wash your hands after handling receipts. 👉 Anything with “fragrance”: Products labeled with “fragrance” often contain phthalates, which can alter hormone activity. Search @environmentalworkinggroup’s database for better alternatives or opt for fragrance-free personal care and cleaning products. 👉 Plastic water bottles: Harmful chemicals like BPA and phthalates, which can interfere with hormones, are often found in plastic bottles. We recommend switching to glass or stainless steel bottles whenever possible. 👉 Non-stick cookware: The chemicals used in non-stick coatings, like perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), can leach into food and interfere with hormone function. Opt for stainless steel and cast iron cookware instead. 👉 Blue light at night: Exposure at night can suppress melatonin production, disrupting the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle which impacts hormones. Try blue light blocking glasses and turn night mode on your devices after sunset.
