The Select LA Summit provided an excellent platform to connect with leaders from Southern California’s key industries. Our Consul General, Sophie Hottat, attended the conference together with Hubert Goffinet (Wallonia Export) exploring investment and innovation opportunities for Belgian companies in the region. It was encouraging to see many European colleagues present, highlighting Europe’s significant role in California’s global economy. We extend our sincere thanks to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), in particular Stephen Cheung and his team for organizing and moderating the event. We are grateful for the meaningful connections made and look forward to future collaboration. Renee Pea; Lucia Sava; Okko-Pekka Salmimies; Andrea Sasse
Last week, the Consulates General of Belgium and Finland in Los Angeles had the pleasure of hosting an event celebrating European Music Export from EU countries. In collaboration with European Music Exporters Exchange EMEE, the consulates invited export agencies visiting LA to attend an engaging panel discussion on resources for music promotion in the US, followed by an evening of networking with local industry peers. Thank you to our panelists Jeff Kilgour, Adam Lewis, and Alexandra Greenberg for the highly interesting discussion, and to all our guests for attending the reception. Until next time! Our Consul General, Sophie Hottat, and Investment Director at Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), Nikki Van Tendeloo, joined by Cyrille Michel, Honorary Consul for Belgium in Oregon, embarked on an inspiring three-day visit to Portland, meeting with key players in the business, economic and political landscape. The focus of the visit was the attendance to the Celebrate Trade Gala, meeting with local elites and in particular the Mayor of Portland, Ted Weehler. The visit was also the opportunity to meet with the main Belgian investor in the Portland area and the largest investors from Portland to Belgium. While visiting the Headquarter of Nike, our Belgian delegation met with Bert Stevens (Global VP of Marketplace Supply Chain at Nike) and Jorge Casimiro (Chief Government & Public Affairs Officer), to exchange on the 30 years presence of Nike distribution center in Laakdal, in Flanders. Another visit was brought to Oregon Tool, a long-time investor to Belgium and to Belgian EMPWR investment in McMinnville, Oregon.🙌🏼 These interactions allowed to showcase Belgium-Oregon relations and reflect on possible future collaborations. 🤝

We were thrilled to join the UC Irvine #Francophone Job & Career Fair this week and represent #Belgium and #Luxembourg startups and companies, together with our colleagues from AWEX USA and the Consulate General of Belgium in Los Angeles. These international #networking events are key initiatives to offer students, recent graduates, or professionals, opportunities with international companies present in the U.S. and bring their skills and diversity to various industries. Nice to participate with our friends from The Elles Collective, including our Board member, Céline AMILIEN. Stay tuned for other similar events like the one we organized together with UCLA and Laurence Denié-Higney. Thank you to the Department of European Languages & Studies at UC Irvine for their great hospitality! #JobFair #Career #Opportunities #OrangeCounty Luxembourg Trade & Investment Office San Francisco

🇪🇺🇺🇸🌵 Last week Deputy Head of Mission Sophie Karlshausen joined colleagues from other EU member state embassies in DC on a field trip to #Arizona. She co-organized the program in the context of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024, with support of many partners. In just 3 days, 22 EU DCM’s met members from the Arizona State House of Representatives, local officials, Arizona State University students, and non-profit organizations. Arizona shares a 350 miles long border with Mexico. Arizona is a key player in the EU-US trade relationship and a partner in shared climate concerns. The Grand Canyon State has grown strongly in recent years thanks to the development of its tech industry (#semiconductors, advanced medicine, #aerospace, #defense, #autonomousvehicles, …), in particularly its capital #Phoenix, which has become the fifth largest city in the US, an evolution that comes with energy and water management challenges. Phoenix is home to over 2,500 foreign companies and is currently the largest concentration of foreign investment in the US, according to Greater Phoenix Economic Council. In the border city of #Nogales, an interesting exchange took place with Mayor Jorge Maldonado, and the Greater Nogales Santa Cruz County Port Authority. The city plays a pivotal role in trade, cross border economic exchanges, and tourism. In #Phoenix, discussions were held with Mayor Kate Gallego as well as Arizona State University and Michael Crow on semi-conductors, the #CHIPSAct, technological innovation and #climatechange. As world's leading #nanoelectronics R&D hub, the Belgian company imec is a partner in this field. Socio-economic topics such as reproductive rights, economy, and migration as well as the upcoming elections were discussed during an insightful exchange with Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes. 🌵🤠 And of course, the legendary lonely cow-boy #LuckyLuke, the iconic Belgian comic books character, and his horse Jolly Jumper fueled our conversations through the entire visit. A big thank you to Consulate General of Belgium in Los Angeles and Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations (PCFR) for their valuable support in organizing this captivating field trip.
