With some Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University friends, we argue the scope for what's considered in tech regulation should be broadened. Agree?
There are opportunities for regulators to dive deeper into less-emphasized areas for intervention around social media, write Nathaniel Lubin, Kalie M. Mayberry, Manon Revel, and Luke Thorburn. They argue that "three categories of intervention have been systematically under-regulated as product features: (1) account creation; (2) user interfaces; and (3) recommender systems," and claim three have been under-regulated as markets: "(1) taxes (and subsidies); (2) competition requirements; and (3) direct provision by the government (i.e. direct purchasing of goods and services)." https://lnkd.in/gXXb3rtq
