Will and Colleen don’t do anything halfway. So when they said yes to foster parenting, it changed their lives. After caring for children who had been moved through up to 10 different foster homes, they said no more. They wanted their home to be kids’ last stop in foster care, whether that meant a child’s last move before going back to their home and family or adopting if a child in their care couldn’t go home. That’s how they became a family with 10 children—eight still in their home and their foster license still active. Hear their joyful journey of foster parenting here: https://lnkd.in/gCG3zpCV

When José fled violence, he knew education was the path forward in the U.S. With the support of his foster mom, he graduated from high school, studied criminal justice in college, and is pursuing a career in law enforcement. José describes what family looks like for him, including those "who are complete strangers to you who just welcome you at their home." For refugees fleeing danger, the resettlement process can be extremely challenging. That’s why we collaborate with volunteers, churches, schools, and service providers to ensure refugees thrive. The city of Memphis 🤝 refugees and immmigrants Members from our Tennessee offices were proud to represent Bethany Christian Services at the Quarterly Consultation in Memphis last week. At the meeting, a representative from the mayor’s office presented a proclamation identifying Memphis as a welcoming city for refugees and immigrants. Refugees deserve to be safe, loved, and connected. Learn more about how you can help refugees and immigrants in your community this #WorldRefugeeMonth: https://lnkd.in/grnxfdkZ

You don’t need to overcomplicate getting started in the work of welcome. “The first thing is to build a relationship,” says Andrew Mead, pastor at Church of the Servant. “Be a welcoming person and ask someone their name. Listen to their story and create a human connection.” At Bethany, we collaborate with others to provide essential support to refugees and show the love and compassion of Jesus. There are many opportunities to partner with us in this work the Church is called to. This World Refugee Day, we're inspired by churches like Church of the Servant. One way they love God is by loving their neighbors—particularly neighbors new to the U.S.—through their ministry with refugees. Over decades, they've helped hundreds of families navigate new lives. This World Refugee Month, your church can answer the call too. Read more about how you can extend Christlike welcome to new refugee neighbors: https://lnkd.in/ef-PaP5A
