About us
Beyond Basics believes literacy is for everyone. Founded in 1999, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to eradicate illiteracy, transforming the lives of students and creating stronger communities. Our one-on-one, multisensory tutoring program helps students achieve grade-level movement in reading in an average of six weeks. In addition to our structured literacy interventions, we cultivate curiosity and encourage a love of lifelong learning with fine arts activities that expand horizons.

Earlier this week, our team joined the Detroit Sports Commission's Community Impact Draft at the Corner Ballpark to mark the beginning of the NFL draft in Detroit. We were part of a group of Metro Detroit nonprofits and communities set to benefit from a Living Legacy Donation of nearly $2 million, raised in connection with the draft.
