Important Tax Relief Update for Nebraska The IRS has announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in Nebraska affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes starting April 25, 2024. This includes Boone, Douglas, Greeley, Howard, Sherman, and Washington counties. New Deadlines: Taxpayers in these areas now have until September 3, 2024, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Who Qualifies?: Individuals and households residing in or with a business in the affected counties are eligible for this relief. This also includes deadlines for quarterly estimated tax payments and payroll/excise tax returns. Automatic Identification: The IRS will automatically apply this relief to taxpayers located in the disaster area. If you’re outside the area but impacted, call the IRS disaster hotline at 866-562- 5227 to request relief. Additional Support: The IRS will waive the usual fees for copies of previously filed tax returns and offer other forms of relief, including options for claiming disaster-related casualty losses on federal income tax returns.
