About us

We are The Boston Beer Company and together we are heavy. From the very beginning, Jim Koch wanted to create a company that he would want to work for, creating a culture that celebrated beer with a passion and depth of knowledge that can’t help but be contagious to others. 40 years of brewing beer and cultivating talent later, we continue to be a passionate group of individuals who focus on raising the bar in everything that we do. We are always looking for hardworking, motivated and competitive people who strive to push the boundaries and never settle. Not to be lost in the shuffle is the ability to have fun – after all, we are a beer company, and if you can’t have fun in this business, there’s something wrong!

In September of 1995, Boston Beer Company launched an official search for the "best of the best" homebrewed creations. At the time, the program was dubbed the Longshot competition. It called upon members of the public to submit their homemade brews to be judged by the brewmasters at Boston Beer Company along with Master Homebrew Judges from the Beer Judging Certification Program. The three winning brews would then be distributed nationally under the brand name "LongShot." One of the winners from that very first competition is pictured here with Jim! Although the program has gone through a few iterations over the years, this tradition has continued at Boston Beer - now with our internal coworker Homebrew Competition, which kicked off last week. It is judged by a panel of our brewers and innovation experts, including our very own Master Cicerone Shelley Smith, who is one of just 28 Master Cicerones in the world. Learn more about this impressive title: https://lnkd.in/e6E5-gNG Good luck to all of our homebrewers! We'll announce the winner in September! Learn more about the opportunities and programs that await at Boston Beer Company: https://lnkd.in/engAxnxA

Earlier this month, our Samuel Adams Pennsylvania Brewery Golf Committee hosted the 15th annual "Swinging for a Cure” Golf Tournament, raising more than $25,000 for The ALS Association Philadelphia Chapter. The event is inspired by the legacies of Steve Flintosh and Bill Barnhart, two Boston Beer coworkers who lost their battles with ALS. We honor them by fundraising for a cure. “This is as much a community effort as it is a brewery effort,” remarks Jess Ashby, member of the Samuel Adams Pennsylvania Brewery Golf Committee. “In addition to the 40 volunteers that planned and hosted, this year we had 28 sponsors - including the Sam Adams and Angry Orchard brand teams - that helped make this event a success.” Thank you to the sponsors and coworkers who came out for a great cause and a great time! 🏌️ Visit the ALS Association online to get involved: https://lnkd.in/e_Tc_twe

Thirty-five years ago today -- on June 24, 1989 -- we officially opened our doors in Jamaica Plain where Gov. Michael Dukakis (pictured here with Jim) served as leadoff hitter at our grand opening event. We’re proud to maintain our roots in Jamaica Plain to this day! Happy birthday, Sam Adams Boston Brewery. 🥳 Learn more about the history of Boston Beer: https://lnkd.in/en8vSZ8H

As we usher in the dog days, let us reminisce on some of our favorite summer memories, starting in '95! This was the year Sam and Mariah Calagione opened the first Dogfish Head brewpub - Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, DE.   Two years (and a few weeks) later, fans were welcomed to the Dogfish Head Brewery grand opening music festival on Nassau Commons - now that's a pretty sweet way to celebrate a 2nd birthday!   Today marks 29 years of off-centered goodness for off-centered people and the anniversary of some of our favorite places to grab a pint! Happy Birthday Dogfish Head. 🍻

Last week, we announced Crowns & Hops Brewing Co. as the winner of Brewing the American Dream’s 13th Brewing & Business Experienceship. This winning small business was selected at last week’s Crafting Dreams Beer Bash at the Sam Adams Boston Taproom where they and five other finalists from across the nation poured a beer of choice and shared their personal stories. Crowns & Hops showcased “The Dopest” Hazy IPA, referenced by voters as a distinct yet crisp, clean beer that complements the brewery’s visionary mission to create cultural equity in the craft beer space. Crowns & Hops Brewing Co. is a proud Black-owned, woman-owned, and veteran-owned brewery based out of Inglewood, CA, co-founded by Beny Ashburn and Teo Hunter.
