About us

Boys & Girls Aid strives to find lifelong connections for children who face abuse and neglect. Founded in 1885, we continue to help Oregon’s children find permanent homes through adoption, while providing temporary shelter for children in transition. Annually we serve over 1,500 children directly. We also educate and train many more child welfare professionals with innovative programs throughout the year. Learn more at boysandgirlsaid.org.

Meet Sara! Sara is a Graphic Designer for Carnegie Learning who’s passionate about blending creativity with community impact. She was recommended to us by another staff member and has been a volunteer photographer at many of our events. She, most recently, took family portraits at our annual Summer Adoption Picnic. “I love Boys & Girls Aid—it’s such an impactful and meaningful organization, and everyone I’ve met through volunteering has been so lovely,” says Sara. “Getting to hear everyone’s stories while I’m capturing special moments for them is incredible.” Outside of her professional and volunteer work, you can find Sara honing her illustration skills, exploring the tide pools on the Oregon coast, or cheering on her favorite team at an NWSL game. She’s also a huge fan of spoiling her rescue dog, Kya. Find out how you can get involved with Boys & Girls Aid https://bit.ly/3WKoxLw

This is SO cool!! Students from Southridge High School’s PERIOD. chapter assembled nearly 60 period kits for our youth shelter, Safe Place. These kits are decked out with essentials including pads, tampons, wipes, hand sanitizer, and, of course, candy 😍. Each one also has a thoughtful message inside. Grace, Nell, Mari, and Russell stopped by, dropped off the kits, toured the office, and learned more about Boys & Girls Aid and the services we offer. PERIOD. is a global, youth-powered non-profit dedicated to ending period poverty and period stigma. Thank you all for your generous donation and the incredible work you’re doing for the community! Find out how you can put together your own donation drive in support of Boys & Girls Aid https://bit.ly/3WKoxLw

Meet Daisy! Daisy has been an Outreach and Certification Specialist and an integral part of Boys & Girls Aid since 2022. Their role includes outreach for the agency, as well as recruiting, certifying, and re-certifying foster parents in our programs. They do everything from tabling at Pride events and speaking at Neighborhood Association meetings to facilitating training sessions with our foster care coordinators. What excites Daisy most about their role is working with people who share the same dedication to ensuring youth make lasting connections in their community and receive the care they need, "It is inspiring to see the agency's impact on families' lives and provide youth in the foster care system with experiences that most people take for granted." Daisy is an avid reader, loves crocheting, dances and sings (whenever appropriate) and enjoys all things pop culture. When they're not working or indulging in mental self-care, they're listening to Charli XCX's new album and having a "Brat summer". Catch them at the Sweat Tour in October! Get in touch with Daisy or one of our other Outreach and Certification team members to learn more about becoming a foster parent! https://bit.ly/3r3erGz

Take a look at these incredibly fun shirts we received from the talented Jasneko. She designs and prints these shirts with our youth in mind, and we are so excited whenever they pop up in our mailbox. Our favorite might be the little turtles eating a pizza (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle style😁). Thank you so much for your continued partnership! Stop by her website for more amazing designs and illustrations https://bit.ly/3YNvezn

Meet Arielle! Arielle has worked with several of our programs since she first joined Boys & Girls Aid in 2019 and is now a Supportive Housing Liaison with our Housing Department. She works closely with Washington County to find housing and provide support to clients ages 18-24 in our program, helping them maintain their housing. This includes assistance with utilities, employment, and access to resources in the area. There are two things Arielle loves most about this role: the day she gets the keys for clients and the day they get to shop for furniture at Community Warehouse, “Some of the clients we work with have lost hope and have been in survival mode for a long time, so getting to see the look of relief and excitement at what is possible is the coolest thing ever.” In her free time, Arielle loves hosting friends for dinner and drinks but also enjoys a quiet night in with her soon-to-be wife and their four dogs. She’s also a big horror nerd and will read and watch anything she can get her hands on!
