Last month, Bridge President and CEO Elisabeth Jackson delivered a powerful speech at TEDxBoston's Boston Leaders conference. Elisabeth spoke about how youth experiencing homelessness go unnoticed and unprotected by systems that are not built to serve their needs. She reminds us that although the government considers an 18-year-old an adult, there is still a good deal of growing and maturing that happens after 18, and we need a system that reflects that. Bridge Over Troubled Waters is Boston's foremost agency providing age-appropriate services for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Nowhere else in Boston can young adults take classes towards their GED, find a job with the assistance of a workforce developer, consult a professional counselor, or enter a cooperative apartment – all under the same roof.
