About us
Bright Beginnings, Inc. is a non profit that operates child and family development centers for homeless children whose families are in crisis shelters or transitional housing in Washington, DC. The center offers free, full-day, year-round and developmentally-appropriate childcare and early childhood education for children aged six weeks to five years old. The program is designed to: (a) provide homeless infants, toddlers and preschoolers with a safe, nurturing environment; (b) prepare them to enter kindergarten ready to learn, and (c) support their parents as they stabilize their lives and strive toward self-sufficiency by providing mental health, social emotional and workforce development services to families. Exciting news at BBI! We're thrilled to share that we've been selected for the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant! This five-year initiative empowers us to enhance literacy instruction for kids from birth through grade 12. To kickstart, we've teamed up with Scholastic for an incredible book fair, setting the stage for our scholars' literary adventures! Representatives from local education agencies (LEAs) and nonprofits met earlier this month to discuss using literacy data to better inform strategic decisions and connect with other District recipients of the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant. CLSD is a five-year grant that supports Local Literacy Plans to improve outcomes and strengthen literacy instruction for children and students, birth through grade 12. Collaboration between OSSE and LEAs aids the efficient implementation of evidence-based literacy practices with DC students and can be fun, too! #LiteracyDC
