Bright Horizons Foundation for Children UK
Individual and Family Services
Children in crisis need our help. Bright Spaces provide these children with a safe place to play, learn, and have fun.
About us
The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children was founded in the US in 1999 and established in the UK in 2005 to fulfil the mission of Bright Horizons® to “make a difference in the lives of children and families.” Through the Foundation, Bright Horizons leverages its expertise, resources and partnerships to support non-profit organisations with programmes that instil a positive self-concept and self-esteem in children; provide children and families with nurturing, creative environments; and support and facilitate the development of strong families. Our Mission: Bright Spaces are the Foundation’s core programme. Bright Spaces are warm, safe, enriching play environments located in homeless shelters, domestic violence refuges, hospitals, police stations and prison visits halls. They are used by our Bright Space partners for a range of purposes, including play, therapeutic services, family visits and child protection interviews. The Foundation believes that we can make the world a better place by working collaboratively to strengthen families, support our communities, share our knowledge, and encourage others to join us in making a difference.

This time last week, a fantastically nostalgic fundraising event took place, inspired by the iconic Raleigh Chopper bicycles of the 1970s. The Chopper Challenge was born out of Amanda Gackowska's passion for the Raleigh Chopper, a bike that symbolised freedom and adventure for a generation. Starting with just a single Chopper, this passion soon turned into a collection of eight bikes, each with its own story and character. "Growing up, I always coveted my brother’s Tomahawk bike." said Amanda, Facilities Manager at Bright Horizons UK. "When my partner surprised me with a rusty old Chopper for Christmas, we painstakingly restored it and started a full-blown collection. When our Foundation launched the ‘100 Your Way’ fundraiser, it became the perfect opportunity to put these bikes to good use and raise money. Riding the bikes reminded us of the freedom and fun of our own childhoods so it felt right to get them back on the road and raising money for another generation of children who deserve safe places to learn and play." Amanda and a team of 8 took on 100 miles on the classic bikes around Willen Lakes in Milton Keynes. Bright Horizons Health and Safety mascot Candy Floss also made an appearance! (Can you guess who it is?) The team raised an incredible £3,687 for Bright Spaces! Huge thanks to Amanda and the team, and everyone who so generously sponsored them, your funds will make a material difference to the children and families we support. #100brightspaces #makeadifference #fundraising #charity

So at the start of the year I committed to cycling 100 miles per month for the whole of 2024 for the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children UK and I can tell you I was a little unsure as to how I was going to do. As we are now nearing the end of August I thought I’d share a little update on my progress. I started a little late in January due to the weather, only managing to complete 40.13 miles and therefore carrying over 59.87 miles in to February. I managed to smash all 159.87 miles in February and haven’t looked back since making sure I complete a minimum of 100 miles each month. Having completed my 29th ride my current total stands at 791.69 miles with one ride in August to go. #100yourway #brighthorizonsfoundation #brightspaces #brighthorizons You can support the foundation by sponsoring me and my tiring legs here https://lnkd.in/ewSzjQdG
