New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who calls herself a "staunch environmentalist," says the state won't meet its 2030 climate goals. But environmentalists declared that the state has not done enough on renewable energy and climate expert and Stanford professor Mark Jacobson thinks it is entirely possible. Islands are the most affected by the destructive impact of the climate crisis. They also pay the highest price for fossil-fuel-based electricity. Transitioning to 100% renewable energy can address both of these critical issues. In May, BSL was in Hawaii to help produce the second cohort of Blue Planet Alliance (BPA)'s Fellowship Program, bringing representatives of 10 islands to Hawaii to learn how the Aloha State made it state law to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045. In October, we'll be bringing another 10 islands to Hawaii — for a total of 28 that have come through the program, including islands from the Caribbean and Pacific and Indian oceans.
