Significant health risks due to contaminated soil? Soil, a vital component of our ecosystem, is packed with a diverse set of microorganisms, with bacteria being the most abundant. However, it’s important to note that certain bacteria, along with fungi, can pose significant health risks to humans. Therefore, gaining a thorough understanding of the presence and pathogenic potential of these microorganisms is crucial for maintaining public health. The process of detecting and identifying these soil microbes in the laboratory involves a variety of methods. These range from traditional culture techniques, such as plate counting and light microscopy, to more advanced molecular approaches. The latter includes techniques like MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry and/or DNA amplification and identification. In addition, MALDI-TOF MS allows the detection of antimicrobial resistance markers in one workflow. Explore advanced techniques for identifying and characterizing these microorganisms in our article and understand their impact on our environment. 🥇 1st IR Biotyper in Vietnam and Southeast Asia! Congtrats Jantimaporn Nookmun and the team in Vietnam!
That’s fantastic news! The Microbiology Department at Bach Mai Hospital in Vietnam is leading the way by adopting the IR Biotyper for effective hospital hygiene management and microbial strain typing. The workflow is incredibly efficient, with up to 30 isolates analyzed within one run. From culture transfer to result, it takes only 3 hours, providing an early screening method and an essential warning system for hospital outbreaks Kudos to Bach Mai Hospital for embracing innovative technology to enhance patient care and infection control! 🌟🏥🔬 #IRbiotyper #BrukerMicrobiology

Having a good beer may be 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 top priority on warm sunny days? 🍻☀️ However, maintaining beer quality and minimizing spoilage is a top priority for breweries – but how can this be achieved? Beer – who doesn’t love it? In today’s world, there are countless flavors, types and even raw and unpasteurized versions. The market has been booming for centuries. Even though beer is considered an unfavorable substrate for growth of many microorganisms, some species of yeast and bacteria can survive in this harsh environment. Common beer-spoiling microbes include 𝘓𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴 spp., 𝘗𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘴 spp., 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘴 spp. and wild strains of 𝘚𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘺𝘤𝘦𝘴 spp. We must not forget about waterborne pathogens that can also affect the quality. Beer spoilage can significantly reduce shelf life and potentially lead to substantial financial losses for breweries due to product recalls or consumer rejections. To maintain the desired quality and longevity, microbial testing should play a crucial part in the brewing process. Rapid detection methods are especially important. One possible technology could be MALDI-TOF MS. It can rapidly detect beer spoilage microorganisms in minutes, with an easy workflow. Want to know how? Read our news digest below. Cheers to that! 🍻 #BrukerMID #microbiology #foodandbeverage #drinks
