After nearly 60 years, Jim Tonascia has retired from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Jim has made foundational contributions across both Epidemiology and Biostatistics education and research, a true friend and contributor to both Departments. Congratulations Jim!

Congratulations Nilanjan Chatterjee, one of the winners of the GKII-KCDH Breakthrough Research Grant on Digital Health. His winning research proposal with Dr. Saket Choudhary, is titled "Development of a breast cancer risk prediction tool for the Indian population." This project, which will involve development of the first risk prediction model and clinical tool for the Indian population, will include collaboration across The Johns Hopkins University, Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai, and Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai.

In celebration of National Statistics Day, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Nilanjan Chatterjee recently gave the prestigious P.C. Mahalanobis lecture hosted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Dr. Chatterjee's lecture focused on the methodology and applications for integrating different data sources to build predictive models for individualized health.

Our Department’s summer interns Zoey Hall (who worked with Nilanjan Chatterjee and Ziqiao Wang) and Byron Hall (who worked with Sandipan Pramanik and Abhirup Datta) presented their research yesterday at the Diversity Summer Internship Program’s Research Poster Session. Zoey’s research project, “Polygenic Risk Scores as Predictor for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder with BIPOC Communities,” investigated whether polygenic risk scores (PGS) for ADHD developed from European ancestry studies predicts the risk of ADHD in a primarily African descent cohort. Byron's research project, “R Shiny App for Correcting Verbal Autopsy Misclassification in Mortality Estimations,” involved the construction of interactive web apps with an interface to be used to accept uncalibrated verbal autopsy data and output calibrated cause specific-mortality fractions.
