Our mission is to provide help, hope and healing to those in need in WNY through the dozens of services we provide.

About us

Since 1917, Buffalo City Mission has seen the City of Buffalo and its people through hard times on every level imaginable. Through the widespread devastation of the Great Depression to the current economic downturn in our city, the Mission has opened its doors to help men, women and children restore hope, dignity and lives. As a 100% Privately funded 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization, the Buffalo City Mission is solely funded through donations from individuals, organizations, churches and grants here in our City of Good Neighbors. For over 100 years, the Mission has met the needs of the poor and the homeless. Looking around our city, you will see our work is far from over. Each year, more men, women and children come to us for help. At the same time, their needs become increasingly complex. Providing food and shelter to people in crisis is simply not enough, which is why the BCM also offers education programing, long-term transitional housing, recovery programs, counseling, work and life-skills training, childcare, birth-Pre-K education programs, after school programming, on-site mental health services, an on-site health clinic staffed by Jericho Road, as well as partners with well over 80 community partners in WNY. We do all that we can to be a "one-stop-shop" for an individual or family in need. We also offer outreach programs to prevent homelessness for individuals and families in the low-income community, serving over 600 meals a day between our 2 facilities, 50% of which are served to individuals that are not currently living with us as well as maintaining a free Agape Shop where members of our community can receive practical items, clothes and food free of charge. It will take all of us—individuals, businesses, organization, service groups and foundations—to meet the challenges ahead. Find out more about how you or your organization can help put an end to poverty and homelessness in our community at www.buffalocitymission.org. Or, shoot us a message!

As an organization that has the tremendous privilege of serving many WNY veterans within our walls, with both of our facilities having dedicated Veteran dorms, we stand thankful, and honored this Memorial Day for those that served and sacrificed. To all who have served, thank you. 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Our hearts are overflowing with joy as we reflect on a truly remarkable day that we had a Cornerstone Manor yesterday. 🕊️ We are elated to share that eight of our ladies choose to make their faith pubic through water baptism! Amidst the blessings, we also had the privilege of dedicating one of our youngest residents, baby Frankie, to the Lord. Surrounded by his mother, father and other loved ones, the dedication was a testament to the hope and support found within our community. We are immensely grateful for the support and prayers of our extended Cornerstone family. 💗 Your contributions help us create an environment where faith is nurtured, hope is restored, and lives are transformed. Together, we are building a haven where every soul can find solace in Christ's unwavering love.

Linda knows what it means to love, and to lose. Her husband passed away over a decade ago, and she’s lost a number of other close friends and family over the years. When her father began going downhill, she left her home in the South and returned to New York to care for him. Unfortunately, after just a day here, Linda suffered a severe heart attack that kept her hospitalized for an extended period of time. While in the hospital, her father passed away. His death hit her hard and seemed to magnify the pain she felt from so many other losses. “When people die, it’s hard to unravel all the emotions you feel,” she said. “I got angry for a time, and then I grieved. After that, I lost my faith.” Since Linda had just moved back to Buffalo, she didn’t have anywhere to go after being discharged from the hospital. “I spent my savings trying to set life up. I was staying in hotels, paying for storage, paying for medications and everything else,” she says. The stress and strain coupled with her existing health problems became too much, and she wound back up in the hospital. It was there that one of the nurses told Linda about Buffalo City Mission. “The very first day I got here, I spoke with the Chaplain. It was amazing. It was like all my faith that had poured out after my father’s death poured back in. It felt like God was walking and talking with me again.” As the days passed, Linda continued to experience healing and restoration. She received meals and shelter and served in our Agape Boutique. “Since I got here, I’ve been able to use my brain, my time, my life giving back. There is something here for everyone, and I really love it.” Linda recently graduated out of our Transitional Housing Program and is back living on her own - but she remains deeply grateful for the help she received. “God surrounds you at the Mission,” she says. “I can’t believe the joy, satisfaction, and happiness we experience here.” We are so proud of your journey, Miss. Linda! You are missed tremendously, but we are so excited for this next chapter of yours and can't wait for you to come back to volunteer!

We want to extend a huge shoutout and heartfelt thanks to the incredible volunteer group from Evans Bank. Despite the gloomy weather, you still came to Cornerstone to help weed and beautify our gardens! Your support goes a long way in creating a nurturing and uplifting environment for the women and children who seek refuge at the Mission.

Today was a special day at our Alfiero Family Center - we were honored to host a group of amazing volunteers from The Bonadio Group! Their unwavering commitment to serving the community truly touched our hearts. 🙏❤️ They didn't hesitate to roll up their sleeves and get down to some outdoor work by pulling weeds and beautifying our grounds. They also were a huge help in our Receiving Department, sorting donations and stocking our Agape Shop. We are immensely grateful for your time, energy, and dedication to making a difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness! Can't wait to have you all back at the Mission!
