Applications for the Open Road Fund close July 21! This fund provides individual gifts of $50,000 to individuals from Black communities in MN, ND and SD to support their path to build generational wealth. We're celebrating Build Wealth Minnesota, a Community Innovation grantee, as they celebrate the 1,000th family to achieve homeownership through their 9,000 Equities initiative aimed to increase Black homeownership in the Twin Cities and help build generational wealth. Black Hills Special Services Cooperative, a 2023 Bush Prize: South Dakota winner, is known throughout South Dakota for its ability to create community-led education solutions that meet families and students where they are and help them reach their full potential. Our final Fellows spotlight highlights the work of powerful leaders from different corners of our region! Their groundbreaking work is helping create a brighter tomorrow for everyone. Moira Villiard is elevating underrepresented stories through art and community organizing. May Lee Xiong is reimagining education to support Black, Indigenous and people of color to thrive in schools that celebrate their diverse identities. Amber Zora is an interdisciplinary artist and Iraq War veteran, promoting peace through art that lifts up the experiences of veterans and others affected by war. It’s time to meet three more of the outstanding leaders who are part of this year’s class of Bush Fellows! These individuals have big plans for our region. Leslie Ellen Redmond, Esq, MBA works for transformative change through compassionate leadership, spearheading initiatives that foster activism and resilience among youth and community members alike. Antony Stately is a transformative leader dedicated to health equity in Indigenous communities, known for developing innovative approaches to culturally integrated care, including new models of street medicine and harm reduction for unsheltered people. Irma Márquez Trapero is on a mission to redefine leadership in Latine communities by placing mental health and healing at the forefront, advocating for compassionate and inclusive spaces that honor cultural heritage. David O'Hara is a professor, environmentalist and advocate for sustainable change, championing practical solutions rooted in philosophical pragmatism. Alysha Price promotes the power of strong and supportive co-parenting, challenging the narrative that single parents within Black communities cannot succeed. Dr. Kasim Abdur Razzaq is dedicated to helping others achieve mental health and wellbeing, working to find ways to give people language and meaning for their personal experiences.
