How to get noticed by Recruiters on LinkedIn: The best way to find a job is for a recruiter to find you (recruiters typically spend more of their time proactively searching for candidates than they do reading through inbound applications) - here’s how to become more discoverable: 1. Utilize the ‘skills’ feature on your profile - 40% of recruiter searches now begin with skills (versus starting with job title or company). LinkedIn now also allows you to link skills to volunteer positions, creating more opportunities to demonstrate proficiency in areas beyond your day job. 2. Upload your resume to LinkedIn (you can do this on the jobs tab under ‘application settings’) and be sure to select ‘yes’ on the ‘share your resume data with recruiters’ toggle. 3. Create a target list of companies and for each target: follow the company page, follow leaders at the company and engage (like, celebrate, repost, etc.) with any content the company shares that resonates with you. 4. Find the folks at your target companies that post the most frequently and engage (authentically) with their content - commenting on posts is a great first networking step. 5. Utilize the ‘open to’ functionality on your profile (a more private option than the ‘open to work’ profile pic frame that is visible to everyone). Why does this matter? Recruiters have access to a separate version of LinkedIn - much of our time is spent trying to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, and LinkedIn helps us do that. The average InMail response rate hovers around 30%, so an algorithm optimizes our searches with filters like ‘more likely to respond’ and ‘engaged with your talent brand’. Taking the above actions ensures that when recruiters from your target companies are choosing who to contact, you are more likely to make the cut.
