  • Celebrating Epidemiology: The Backbone of Public Health The CDPH Epidemiology Forum is back! A collaboration between Dr. Erica Pan as the State Epidemiologist and the CDPH Regional Public Health Office (RPHO), the Forum enhances the robust network of epidemiologists and cross-disciplinary collaboration through insightful presentations, knowledge sharing and panels focusing on key areas in public health. The latest convening took place on July 25, 2024, in Sacramento with more than 85 in person and 125 virtual attendees. The forum focused on “The Future of Public Health: Equity and Infrastructure,” and featured three panels: * Bridging Gaps and Building Inclusive Practices  * Data to Action for the State of California  * Epidemiological Needs During a Public Health Emergency “The landscape of epidemiology is changing. As part of the Future of Public Health initiative, I want CDPH to play an active role in that change,” said Dr. Erica Pan, State Epidemiologist. “We used this initial forum to focus on the topics that really matter; data and equity, surveillance, monitoring and how we communicate the data back to our populations. I’m so excited to bring this convening together with the Regional Public Health Office and look forward to future events.”  The Epidemiology Forum is a yet another example of leveraging the Hybrid Workforce Environment to increase engagement and collaboration. The hybrid in-person and online format allowed a for wide range of attendees, in terms of years of experience, expertise, geographic location and C/D/O. “Public health connects us all, and the Epidemiology Forum is a great way to build workforce capacity and get diverse viewpoints into the work happening around the department,” said Caroline Kurtz, Deputy Director of the RPHO. “The CDPH Epidemiology Forum is one tangible way to provide professional development, spread awareness of ongoing efforts, and encourage networking and connection not only at CDPH but with Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs) and others, too. Stay tuned for the next convening!” A longer-term vision for the Forum will include speakers and attendees from outside CDPH, including other state and local partners. The organizers are already hard at work planning a virtual Forum in November and a hybrid in-person Forum in March of 2025. The goal is to continue to expand the reach of these Forums, including for the California Epidemiologic Investigation Service Fellows who attended the July Forum. CDPH values our strong partnership with LHJs and ongoing epidemiologist workforce development and hopes that the Forum can continue to strengthen collaboration.   #WeArePublicHealth #Epidemiology #HealthEquity
