We’re committed to making the world’s roads and drivers safer, and we’re excited to partner with driven students who share this mission. Over the past year, we partnered with a team of Howard University students on their capstone project to create the DC Driver app, powered by CMT. The mobile app aims to reduce distracted driving and save lives in Washington, DC. The students developed it with guidance from the CMT team in design, execution, and delivery. “The most rewarding part of the course was getting to speak with these talented students. Being able to set expectations for them as they continue to refine their skills and develop their careers really sets them up for success as they move into the professional environment,” said Tom Petrino, CMT’s Principal Technical Product Manager I, Mobile SDK Integration. #DCDriverApp #HowardUniversity #SaferRoads

It’s been a year since Michigan's hands-free law took effect. Over the last year, the law has reduced distracted driving by 12.8%. CMT's data reveals this drop in phone use while driving has prevented 5,500 crashes, 3,000 injuries, 25 fatalities, and saved $218 million in economic damages. Ohio, Alabama, and Missouri also implemented new hands-free laws in 2023, and are seeing improvements. “We worked tirelessly for years to pass the hands-free bill in Michigan. CMT’s data shows that these laws work. They’re reducing distracted driving and saving lives. We hope other states look at Michigan’s success and enact their own hands-free laws to save even more lives on the road,” said Steven Kiefer, founder and chairman of The Kiefer Foundation and chairman of the CMT Road Safety Board. The latest research from Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System, Progressive Insurance and CMT shows how powerful incentives and loss adversion are for reducing distraction. Penn reseachers studied different behavioral science strategies to curb distracted driving in a seven-week trial. They found that distracted driving drops 21% when there’s money on the table to lose. Specifically, the group of drivers who were told they could lose up to $7.15 a week used their phones the least compared to the control group that received no incentives or feedback. “We were able to use the power of humans’ natural aversion to loss and regret, as well as our desire to fit in to social norms, to achieve some significant results.” - M. Kit Delgado Read the full release: https://lnkd.in/eTZnPHU4 #LossAdversion #DistractedDriving #UPennResearch
