We had the pleasure of sitting down with Jamie Ramsay, our Weddings & Events Executive, to gain insight into his role and how he and his dedicated team work tirelessly to delivery your dream wedding. Hi Jamie! Can you share a bit about your journey to becoming a Wedding & Events Coordinator? I joined my first part time job as an events assistant aged 17, at a city centre conference & events venue, whilst studying for my business qualification in college. I was so eager to start working full time, so took the leap and left further education after my 1st year and joined the world of work full time at aged 18. I was lucky enough to embark on a hospitality apprenticeship through my venue, provided by Babcock Education, and gained my SVQ qualifications. This allowed me to become a leader in my department, and manage the efficient running of an event, and set my events career off to an amazing start! Unfortunately, covid-19 forced my events career to pause for a full year, facing furlough, redundancy, then resumed in mid 2021 where I took on my first role in a hotel as a Receptionist, and later developed into the hotel events coordinator. Fast forward to May 2022, I joined the stunning Cameron House as a Wedding & Event Coordinator. How long have you been in this role, and what do you enjoy most about it? I have been delivering wonderful Weddings at Cameron House since May 2022, and the best part of my job is meeting my couples for the first time, seeing them fall in love with the hotel, and bringing their dream Wedding day to life. It fills me with so much joy knowing that I have done my couples well, and makes me hungry to keep delivering more Weddings! What's the most memorable event you've coordinated and why? I coordinated a large Wedding at the hotel in 2023, where the client hosted a series of events with loved ones, before celebrating their Wedding day with Jewish traditions. It was my first time working with a Wedding planner too, so it was a great experience seeing how an external planner operated with their clients, and how they operated with me at the hotel. It was a truly special event, where I connected deeply with the planner and the family, and still keep in touch with them today. What skills do you think are most important for a successful event coordinator? Ensuring that the coordinator understands the clients needs & requirements in order to deliver the event. Solving issues before they become issues. Most importantly, being friendly and supportive of your brides & grooms, as you spend on average 300 hours with them planning their perfect day!
