According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, for every million smartphones, 35,274 pounds of copper and 772 pounds of silver can be reused. Michigan is investing in research and infrastructure to boost e-waste recycling and secure a domestic supply of critical minerals. Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is offering $4.75 million in grants for university research and has partnered with organizations like the ReCell Center to develop innovative recycling technologies.
