The new #StarbucksCEO will unfortunately have to pay taxes on his 1,000-mile commute by private jet. 🛩 According to the IRS, commuting is not a deductible expense. The IRS has yet to publish their per-mile rates for private jets... However, at a private jet operating cost of $1,100 an hour, Mr. Niccol will likely be receiving a taxable benefit of $3,300 for his morning commute. What are your thoughts? #Starbucks Image credit: BBC

A Tax-Free Car Allowance (TFCA) is a great solution to the problems posed by flat-rate, in-house car allowances. While in-house allowances are usually taxed, TFCA is considered tax-free by the IRS. You can issue your TFCA using a variety of different rate styles, including: - a flat monthly payment (e.g. $600 per month) - a number of cents per mile (e.g. $0.50 per mile) - a market data fixed and variable rate plan (e.g. $300/month + $0.25 per mile) However you set up your TFCA, there is one simple tax test: comparing the allowance to the IRS standard rate to determine taxability. Everything up to and including the IRS standard rate is tax-free. (Just don't forget to track miles so you can perform the tax test!) TFCA is an awesome way to immediately save 30% or more on car allowance payments.

Lots of businesses are still relying on a flat-rate car allowance. If you’re reading this and thinking “that’s us”, you’re likely wasting a considerable amount of the allowance on taxes. Flat-rate allowances are convenient, but they’re not tax efficient or equitable. The one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t account for regional variations in costs like gas, insurance, or maintenance. Even worse—allowance is fully taxable. If you give your employees $600 as an allowance, they may only see around $420 after taxes. That’s a loss of 30% right off the top—money that could be better utilized elsewhere. A Tax-Free Car Allowance (TFCA), on the other hand: • uses accurate mileage tracking • works within the parameters set by the IRS • is completely tax-free! As a result, your mobile employees can cover their actual vehicle expenses without coming up short. A Tax-Free Car Allowance is a straightforward way to end money waste, maximize your budget, and maintain a happy staff. #TFCA #AccountableAllowance #Cardata

Paul breaks down the three kinds of IRS-compliant vehicle reimbursement programs, and why you should switch to one of them if you're currently issuing a taxable allowance to employee drivers.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀 Are you still offering your employees a flat-rate car allowance? If so, you could be wasting a significant portion of that money on taxes. With regional variations in costs like gas and insurance, a one-size-fits-all allowance is far from efficient. Here’s the kicker: A standard car allowance isn’t just inefficient—it’s taxable! You’re paying your employees $600, but after income and payroll taxes, they’re left with as little as $420. That’s a 30% loss! There's a smarter way to handle vehicle expenses. The IRS offers three tax-free vehicle reimbursement programs: Tax-Free Car Allowance/463 Accountable Allowance, CPM (Cents-per-Mile), and FAVR (Fixed and Variable Rate). By switching to one of these programs, you can ensure your employees are fully reimbursed for their expenses without any tax deductions. Make the shift to a tax-free vehicle reimbursement program and stop losing money to unnecessary taxes. Your employees will thank you, and your bottom line will, too. #TFCA #FAVR #CPM #Cardata
