We are happy to share that Thomas Mendenhall is our September Driver of the Month. Tom has been a part of our team for over two years. Tom originally began driving commercially in Southern California, for a small Tour Bus company, while earning his college degree. After graduating, Tom focused on teaching. He taught computers for 31 years, both at the high school and community college levels. Finding himself still a bit young to retire, Tom decided to embark on a second career, and return to his transportation roots. This time he would be driving trucks, a career path he had often considered, since childhood. He began truck driving part-time for a Catawba County company in 2019, while continuing to teach college courses to make sure it would be a good decision. Five years later and he hasn’t regretted the move.  His wife likes to joke that since he is now a truck driver, he is in “semi-retirement”. Tom likes being part of the Short Haul Fleet here at Cargo. It offers quite a bit of variety in load assignments, and sometimes allows him to put his computer skills to work, by assisting in Driver Orientation, teaching the company’s onboard computer system when needed. Tom and his wife, Janine, have been married for 33 years and live in Newton, NC. They have four children by birth, and one more by adoption. Currently the couple has four grandchildren, with a fifth due to arrive in the spring. Cargo Transporters extends its heartfelt congratulations to Tom Mendenhall and appreciates the hard work and dedication of all its drivers who ensure the company’s success. #DriveroftheMonth #Trucking #Congratulations

Cargo Transporters is proud to announce Pernell Johnson as the Driver of the Month for August 2024. This recognition honors Pernell’s dedication, and commitment to safety and customer satisfaction. Pernell Johnson has been with Cargo Transporters for two years, demonstrating an amazing work ethic and consistently going above and beyond to ensure timely and efficient deliveries. “I begin each day expecting anything and everything, because that is life on the road. It is always changing, no two days are alike.” says Pernell. “For example, weather, traffic, and construction are challenges that make the same traveled road different each trip.”  Pernell emphasizes the importance of rest. After he finishes his workday, he makes getting recharged a priority. Pernell's journey into trucking began as a youth, riding with his uncle and catching the bug to be on the road. “I enjoy seeing all the sights, the scenery of each state. Each trip I complete is unique. I also enjoy keeping up with my co-workers, calling to catch up, learning about where they are and what it’s like there,” he shares. When asked for advice for those considering a career in trucking, Pernell recommends, “Do your research; don’t do it for the money. Most people think, ‘I can drive and I like to drive,’ but driving is just the basics of the position. It’s about communicating with people, talking through misunderstandings, and getting along with everyone. Don’t let someone make you become something you’re not. I believe things can be resolved by talking through them.” Pernell resides in Knightdale, NC and is the proud father of Kejuan and grandfather of two. Cargo Transporters extends its heartfelt congratulations to Pernell Johnson and appreciates the hard work and dedication of all its drivers who ensure the company’s success and uphold its reputation. #DriveroftheMonth #Congratulations #Success
