#InTheNews Patients who receive a cancer diagnosis have enough to focus on— let’s cross worries about the ‘cost of treatment’ off their list. Sach Jain, Carrum’s Founder and CEO spoke with Healthcare Brew recently about Carrum Cancer Care, the significant expansion of our cancer COE network, and how to rein in costs. Sach shared it’s important that patients get “the right care, as opposed to the most care.” Excerpt: “Total nationwide cancer care spending is expected to reach more than $245 billion annually by 2030, according to the American Association for Cancer Research, as more patients are diagnosed at younger ages. With about half the US population on employer-sponsored health insurance plans, those employers are footing a bigger portion of bills. Naturally, many employers are looking for ways to reduce those costs. Enter Carrum Health.” https://lnkd.in/ePFjvkY4 #valuebasedcare #centersofexcellence #cancercarecosts #financialtoxicity #patientexperience

How do we bridge the gap between stakeholders to drive value in cancer care? It’s the question I got to dig into last night with Kiana Mehring, MBA Dax Kurbegov and Josh Eaves Here are a few takeaways I’m leaving Tampa with: 🤝Partnership: How do we meaningfully create space to get to know one another, our goals, and how we differ? Thanks, Josh, for teaching me a new Greek word - “ginosko” which is to really come to know. And it’s what we need to do with payers, providers, health systems, and others if we are to productively work together. 💎Value: What does high-value cancer care look like - and how does my perspective differ from everyone else’s? And how does the patient and caregiver define it? Understanding where we align and what we are trying to achieve is a critical first step. And as more players enter this field, coordination of care and measurement of outcomes are a must. 💡Innovation: When it comes to payment innovation, how can we truly advance the field? There are so many hurdles here - lack of data transparency, mistrust, misaligned incentives even within single organizations, and a lack of urgency. But we can also make so much progress by learning from one another, coming to the table with humility, and sharing best practices and lessons learned. Headed home with energy, enthusiasm, and a hunger to keep driving change! Thank you Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute and AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care for hosting such a great event!

#InTheNews Where are many surgeries being performed today? How has this trend shifted in the U.S and how does it compare to other countries? Christoph Dankert, Carrum’s Chief Network Officer spoke with Arunima Rajan-Nikhil at Healthcare Executive about the rising trend of outpatient or daytime surgeries happening in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCCS) and weighed in on the ASC landscape in the U.S. “Take total joint replacement - pre-pandemic, maybe one-quarter of the surgeries happened in a hospital outpatient setting, let alone an ASC. This has reversed to where 80-90% of joint replacement surgeries now take place in an outpatient setting. Many surgeons will perform almost all of their cases in an ASC. Advances in better, less invasive surgical techniques, improved anesthesia protocols and more pre-operative preparation have together enabled this trend. It does come with challenges, as patients need to be prepared much more thoroughly, and a clear support plan must be provided after the surgery. Even things as simple as who picks you up from the surgery center need to be thought through carefully.” Read more about the global trends of surgeries being performed at ASCs: https://lnkd.in/dhMPTsCb #outpatientsurgery #ambulatorysurgerycenter #patientnavigation #patientexperience #totaljointreplacement

Yesterday, Carrum Health's VP of Cancer Care, Deirdre Saulet, attended the conference: Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Specialty Care Delivery, hosted by AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care and Tennessee Oncology. Deirdre was a part of the Specialty Value-Based Care Perspectives session, discussing innovations and opportunities to drive value-based care. They talked about meeting the diverse range of cancer patient needs, rethinking risk and value-based payment models, and how to demonstrate the actual “value” of care we’re providing. #carrumhealth #ajmc #tennesseeoncology #oncologyconference #cancerbenefits #employeebenefits #healthcare #valuebasedcare
