“My CASA child’s foster mom is so grateful that I sometimes take her to medical appointments. 🙏 It certainly is above and beyond what is required of CASA Volunteers but there is already so much on her foster mom’s plate, I try to provide extra help whenever possible. It’s truly been eye opening how impacted the dependency system is. Sacramento CASA Volunteer spotlight: Andrea Hanstein "I was sworn in May 2023 and have had the opportunity to work with two transition-aged youth so far. One of my favorite parts of being a CASA is watching my youth see what she is capable of. She has had to fend for herself and overcome hurdle after hurdle so to watch her finally achieve her goals is the most amazing feeling! On the flip side, the bureaucracy of the foster care system can be challenging. Thankfully, my CASA case supervisor has been an amazing resource and is always willing to hop on a call or answer a random email. My advice to new CASAs is – patience! Remember that your youth has often been through so much and it’s your job to be there for them, even if they don’t do things when or how you would do them. I PROMISE it is worth it!!!" An extremely dedicated local volunteer who recently passed away from terminal illness sent us this note just a few months prior to his passing: ❤️ “I just received a very nice card in the mail from one of the members on the Board of Directors of CASA thanking me for the 17 kids I have advocated for. I truly appreciated the timing and significance of that card as it made me stop and reflect on what an amazing, life changing, experience each one of those kids has brought to my life.
