Earlier this summer, CDT filed an amicus brief in Doe v. Grinder before the Ninth Circuit Court addressing #Section230 protections & product liability claims against interactive computer services. CDT's brief emphasizes that #Section230 should not block #ProductLiability claims when those claims do not require ICSs to moderate or control user content. This distinction is key to maintaining both free expression & accountability. By appropriately parsing the relationship between product liability & user-generated content, we can protect users' freedom of expression while also allowing them to seek justice when harmed by an ICS's defective product. https://lnkd.in/ej9z2AnT

Many schools are turning to tech-based solutions provided by vendors to support student mental health. Schools must evaluate these tools to ensure they are effective, & protective of student privacy. Choosing the right mental health technology is crucial. Schools must avoid tools that could inadvertently harm students & focus on those that genuinely support their well-being. CDT's report provides essential guidance for making informed decisions: https://lnkd.in/d-x2WtFE

CDT's Jake Laperruque in the Baltimore Sun on the proposed Maryland policy to govern police use of #FacialRecognition technology. “[Laperruque] called #FacialRecognition a double-edged sword — dangerous when it makes mistakes, which can lead to wrongful arrests, and dangerous when it accurately identifies individuals and is used to track and retaliate against people.” “Laperruque suggested a further step could be limiting police use of #FacialRecognition unless they have a warrant, as other states have required.” https://lnkd.in/dEiGc4rR https://lnkd.in/dEiGc4rR
