CEE’s Andrew Schwartz recently joined the Break Free From Plastic Coalition in Washington, D.C. to lobby for stronger laws and policies to combat the plastics crisis, advocating for several key bills and support for the Global Plastics Treaty. The coalition lobbied government agencies and lawmakers to phase out single-use plastics, eliminate toxic additives and push for a lifecycle approach to plastics regulation to protect human and environmental health. We are thrilled to announce the second issue of our zine, Akin, a project from CEE’s Aja Two Crows and Alyssa Ng. This issue, “Reclaiming Balance Through Ecosystem Restoration,” explores the world of ecosystem restoration—its successes and shortcomings. As the climate and biodiversity crises loom over our collective consciousness, it is essential to investigate the various aspects that define the climate crisis. Akin explores the nature of restoration work—conceptually, philosophically and spiritually—and through the work of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. On a larger scale, Akin and CEE address the current relationship between humans and nature, which is burdened by extractivism and needs healing. CEE’s Andrew Schwartz recently traveled to Ottawa, Canada for the fourth gathering of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-4), aimed at reaching a global treaty to combat the plastics crisis. Last month, we had the great honor of partnering with The Climate Reality Project for their New York training. The training, headlined by former Vice President Al Gore, gathered more than 3,000 participants to discuss the climate crisis, focusing on climate finance, grassroots activism and combating disinformation. CEE led a skills building workshop, “Hearing Nature’s Voice: Embodied Ethics for the Climate Movement,” that explored the ethical and spiritual dimensions of the climate crisis.
