  • Why do community foundations matter? 💭 Central Florida Foundation is our region's community foundation. But...why does that distinction of "community" matter? Great question! 1. Community foundations, such as CFF, exist to support a region, so they are always committed to making your community a better one - for today, tomorrow and generations to come. 2. We are community problem solvers. We work to understand the root-cause problems by convening a variety of perspectives to gain a deeper comprehension of what's going right and what needs work. 3. We then have the ability to fuel new, innovative solutions (or solutions that just haven't gained traction yet but show promise) through strategic philanthropy. We have a network of smart, caring, and local philanthropists and community partners that we work alongside to be a powerful force for good in our community. 4. We work together. We don't believe in egos; rather, we believe we should all be in the same sandbox, communicating and building a better future together. 5. We're a part of the community too. CFF staff members live, work and play in the same community we serve - so we're in it together. 6. Revenue we generate as a nonprofit goes right back into our community. We fuel our Impact Funds and other community initiatives this way, supporting critical social areas such as attainable housing, solutions for homelessness, and healthcare that works for all. Why do community foundations matter? Partnering with us is partnering with your community. Join us! Learn more at cffound.org.

This morning, we hosted a wonderful group of 100 Women Strong at Central Florida Foundation members who were interesting in empowering their own personal philanthropy. Nicole Donelson, CAP®, our VP of Philanthropic Partnerships, led the group through a values-driven self-evaluation. Mark Brewer, CAP ®, our President/CEO, then shared about philanthropy basics, from flexible giving structures to endowments and complex gifts. Our special guest speaker was Cindy Diebel! She shared about her personal philanthropic journey, starting with childhood influences. Some takeaways included: -Start your giving with flexibility in mind. -It’s not how much you give, it’s how you give it. -Values identification is an important first step in personal philanthropy. We were so glad to share the morning together discussing proactive philanthropy and how to empower more female philanthropists.💪 #femalephilanthropists #givingcircle #givingback

  • Come with us on a site visit!   Last week, CFF visited 4Roots in Orlando’s Packing District to learn more about the innovative efforts happening at their new campus. Founder and CEO John Rivers spoke to our group about the power of a strong local food system, and touched on its impact on overall health (both humans and the planet) and our local economy.🍅   The work happening here creates incremental change in Thrive’s Economic Stability Focus Area, plus has positive implications in Healthcare, as well. You can learn more about Thrive, our region’s blueprint for a healthy, thriving community, at cffound.org/thrive. Why does CFF conduct community research, such as this site visit? As Central Florida’s philanthropic experts, part of our work is knowing our community. We are constantly learning so that we can better understand and be a part of efforts in the region to improve on issues, such as food insecurity and sustainable farming techniques. With this knowledge, we’re able to better coordinate and drive philanthropic efforts, ideation, and strategic action as we work together as a community.   🌱 #CommunityResearch #Thrive #CentralFlorida #SustainableFarming #FoodInsecurity #PhilanthropyEfforts #CommunityCollaboration #HealthyLiving #EconomicStability #LocalEconomy

  • The Giving Map💥 How individuals engage in philanthropy changes over time. Moving through various stages is natural, each offering unique opportunities to give back. In other words: Giving is a journey, not a destination. A couple important things to note: 1. There's nothing wrong with any place on this map! Giving is giving. (Have you listened to First You Talk podcast episode 6: are you a philanthropist? You should!) 2. Just because you move from left to right along the map, doesn't mean you'll stop giving in ways you've traditionally engaged in. Reactionary philanthropy often helps with supporting the community on a crisis intervention level - so it's a critical piece of philanthropy. ⚡CFF's focus is on addressing root causes and fostering innovative solutions for a better Central Florida.
