The mission of the Chicago Biomedical Consortium is to stimulate collaboration among scientists at Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois Chicago that will transform research at the frontiers of biomedicine. The CBC will: >> Stimulate research and education that bridge institutional boundaries. >> Enable collaborative and interdisciplinary research that is beyond the range of a single institution. >> Recruit and retain a strong cadre of biomedical leaders and researchers in Chicago. >> Promote the development of the biomedical industry in Chicago. >> Execute a plan capable of improving the health of citizens of Chicago and beyond. Dr. Gatta also serves as co-vice chair of Women In Bio - Engage. Educate. Three #CBCAwardees are developing a drug to treat #Glioblastoma. Dr. Irina Balyasnikova, Ph.D. & Dr. Lesniak Maciej, MD have received CBC Catalyst Awards and Dr. Leonidas Platanias has received a CBC HTS Award. The CBC team was honored to support Dr. Balyasnikova as she shared her work on this new glioblastoma treatment with fellow scientist-entrepreneurs at #Science2Startup a few months ago. We're proud to say momentum is building in #ChicagoBiotech. Researchers from Northwestern University and The University of Texas used a novel drug to stimulate the STING pathway in tumor cells. When activated, this pathway causes cells that would normally suppress the immune system to sound the alarm and call in immune cells to investigate and attack the tumor.
