Child Aid helps Guatemalan children learn to read, giving them a stronger voice and a fighting chance against poverty.
About us
Child Aid transforms how reading and literacy are taught in Guatemala so all children have access to a quality education, and the opportunity to improve their lives and contribute to their communities and the world. Child Aid helps thousands of children learn to read each year in some of Guatemala’s poorest and most underprivileged public schools. We work in classrooms where children would otherwise struggle to attain literacy skills necessary to improving their lives. Without our literacy intervention, students sit in classrooms without books, are taught by teachers without adequate training and struggle to learn. Child Aid changes this. By training effective teachers, providing classrooms with books, and energizing communities for change, we create classrooms where children learn and thrive.

I ran into this INCREDIBLE film from #WINGS on my feed and then, in the ways understood only by the LInkedIn algorithm gods, I could find it again. So I am posting the link here: https://vimeo.com/61691613. This is possibly the bravest and wisest and most beautiful film I have ever seen from an NGO. It is about reproductive choices and the wonderful work done by WINGS. It speaks of these issues in the complex way they are tied up with love for families; what one really owes ones children; culture; gender inequality; and varieties of religious faith. It "shows" as well as "tells" how family planning is implicated in all the problems of health; malnutrition; stunting; and, importantly, education and economic opportunity while it is also completely captivating film making. I have always admired the work and integrity of WINGS , but this film took that admiration to a whole new level. #education #malnutrition #women #religion

Hey, #Booklovers! Did you know that Child Aid creates a culture of reading in the #Guatemalan communities where we live and work? We do! Child Aid encourages children to check out the books we provide from their elementary school's library and read them at home to their parents and younger siblings. And that's important because reading and writing skills are necessary to stop a cycle of deep poverty. Children in the Xetonox Comalapa Elementary School in #Guatemala learn about the elements of a story from their Child Aid-trained teacher. Together, the students create story building blocks, and then each child writes a book! Child Aid's award-winning program features curriculum that helps demystify the writing process for young learners. #GlobalEd #Pd4uandme #EduChat #ChildAidClassroom #literacy #educationmatters
