New Mexico has become a leader in supporting families with two-generation policies—that is, policies that support parents and children. A new Child Trends report from Renee Ryberg, Katelyn Rust, Zabryna Balén, Yash Morimoto, Ph.D, Catron Allred, and Rachel Kutcher shares findings from a survey of more than 3,000 college students across nine community colleges in New Mexico about student parents’ experiences in higher education. https://lnkd.in/eG_-dHZV

Parents and other adults support young people’s racial and ethnic identity formation by teaching them about family history, cultural traditions, and how to interact with their own and other racial and ethnic communities. Young people in foster care, who may not have access to information about their background, may experience the racial socialization process differently. Child Trends’ new brief discusses the implications of a study of the influence of foster care on young people’s racial and ethnic identity development. https://lnkd.in/eiRB9p8p

Did the pandemic change what parents look for in child care, and if so, how? To find out, Catherine Richards, Dale (Epstein) Richards, and Weilin Li analyzed over 24,000 Google reviews from 2018/2019 and 2023 and compared reviews from these two periods.
