  • #CHKD's first Craft Meetup, hosted by the Employee Engagement Council, was a huge hit! The event encouraged team members to gather with their favorite crafting supplies like paints, paper, yarn, and beads and create while connecting with their peers. 🎨🖌️🧶❤️ It was a delightful coincidence that all attendees chose crocheting, which sparked some awesome conversations. As they worked, they swapped photos of their favorite inspirations and creations, shared acquired techniques, and helped each other work through difficult patterns. "I did not realize how much math goes into a crocheted blanket," shared Employee Engagement Council member Bettina Selby, who helped facilitate the event. "I enjoyed hearing them talk about crocheting so passionately." Pictured are attendees Constance Hanckel, Virginia Ramos-Matias, Alicia Kalbfleisch, Holly Schauf, and Quiana DiFernando, who undoubtedly knit greater ties with their peers. It was a great way to connect, and we’re excited to see what the next event brings! #TeamCHKD #TeamBonding #WorkplaceCulture

  • Get to know Information Services Program Manager Arthur Davis, a recent graduate of our Leadership Journey Program, and how he's using what he learned to support his team in his Q&A below! #TeamCHKD #LeadershipSkills #LeadershipDevelopment #InformationServices 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲. I have spent 25 years of my career as a people leader, seven of those at CHKD. The work environment today is different and more diverse than ever. It is vital that we continue to learn, grow, and adapt to the changing needs of staff to meet the changing needs of patients and their families. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠? Even with my years in business operations, I learned a lot from this training. The program expanded our point of view and taught fresh, insightful approaches to building high-performing and productive teams. Sharing thoughts and experiences with other people leaders in a learning environment also provided mentoring opportunities that may not have presented themselves otherwise. Gillian Myers was truly amazing in how she presented each session, and we could not have asked for a more qualified and engaging instructor. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐇𝐊𝐃? I have already put the learned concepts and methods into practice by helping my team better navigate challenges and work more cohesively as a unit with shared visions and objectives. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐇𝐊𝐃? As a parent, I feel privileged to work for an organization that has a positive impact on children and young adults in our community. The shared passion for healing extends beyond clinical staff. Those of us in supportive non-clinical roles feel a true connection to our mission, and this drives me to give my best each day. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐠𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐛𝐞? Steve Jobs, Madam C. J. Walker, and Jeff Bezos. All elite innovators for sure.

  • #CHKD is committed to fostering a culture where team members feel empowered to voice safety concerns. This openness is crucial for achieving zero harm and creating a reliable healthcare environment. Today, we are thrilled to announce that OR nurse Sydney White was honored with the Speak Up for Safety Award by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA)! This incredible achievement is awarded to just two employees of Virginia hospitals each quarter, acknowledging their courage to speak up to ensure the safety of patients, families, and team members. • We’re excited to share what #CHKD's Culture of Excellence Committee has been up to lately! This committee, consisting of three councils—Employee Engagement; Patient Experience; and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging—works hard to keep our organizational culture vibrant and positive. Over the past year, the committee has helped CHKD celebrate our amazing team members with events like the Milestone Gala and Tides Night, rolled out new processes to improve the patient experience, and highlighted the incredible diversity within our organization through education and discussions. To showcase all these achievements, we recently decorated the Raleigh Garage breezeway at our main hospital in a burst of color. It’s a cheerful reminder of what makes #TeamCHKD special and all the hard work that goes into making our environment one of support and care. Here’s a look at the colorful display and the talented folks who helped put it together—Vetra Peyton, Ajiri Byers, Andi Mendelsohn Baldree, Bettina Selby, Ana Mananquil, Soraya Colon-Millan, and Cayleen Schmucker#OrganizationalCulture #Pediatrics #WorkplaceCulture

  • During the two weeks of the 2024 Summer Olympics, the pediatric surgery team at CHKD had a blast hosting their own summer games for patients and their families! Patients were challenged to launch paper airplanes, shoot hoops, toss rings, and battle it out in trivia. They were each awarded a gold medal, and even our staff joined the fun! As we cheered on Team USA, we also celebrated the wins of our brave patients as they healed from surgery. Thank you to our fantastic staff for going above and beyond to create such a memorable experience for our young champions. 🌟🏅 #CHKD #Pediatrics #OlympicFun #TeamUSA
