On July 18, CHRT's Jaque King presented to 36 grantees of the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSAgov), HHS on the subject of “Behavioral Health Workforce Models: Telehealth and Integrated Care in Michigan.” The presentation relied on research Jaque and Nancy Baum did two years ago, when they measured the use of telehealth among BCBSM members from 2019 - 2021. They noted in particular the large geographic disparities between rural and metro areas when telehealth services for behavioral health care increased early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Congratulations to Nailah H., Holly Quivera Teague, and Nancy Baum for their new brief, “Addressing the behavioral health crisis in Michigan: Strategies for enhancing access and coverage.” They write, “Michigan faces significant challenges in providing adequate behavioral health services, a crisis that has only grown during the COVID-19 pandemic. A substantial portion of adults in Michigan suffering from mental illness and substance use disorders are not receiving necessary treatment. This is attributed to a lack of access to services, even for those with insurance coverage.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eySRtYUT

We're happy to share that CHRT's Shaina Tinsey has been invited to join the Livingston-Washtenaw Community Health Worker Coalition. The coalition is working to reduce barriers to care and well-being for Washtenaw and Livingston County members by supporting and advocating for local community health worker programs and social service organizations. The aim? To address social needs, improve health equity outcomes, and advance racial and economic justice for residents.

Direct Care Workers (DCWs) play a critical role in the health of our state by providing long-term care services to older adults, people with disabilities, and others. The professions in this field have some of the highest shortage levels and turnover rates of all health care workers in Michigan, creating significant barriers for many individuals and families who need these services. The Health Fund continues to invest in approaches to stabilize and support the DCW workforce. To help frame the DCW landscape statewide, our partners at the Center for Health and Research Transformation (CHRT) have developed a new legislative briefing, which highlights important data insights and presents potential policy solutions tied to compensation, benefits, career advancement, and more. Meet Romesh Nalliah, a CHRT Health Policy Fellowship alum, now Associate Dean for Patient Services and Clinical Professor of Dentistry at the University of Michigan. His research highlights racial disparities in oral health, and he advocated for better adult dental Medicaid reimbursement rates in Michigan. "I would like physicians to think about ensuring that conditions in the mouth are stable when they’re trying to address a systemic complaint. It’s complex right now, because dentists are not co-located with hospitals and there are different insurance pathways, but that should not stop us from doing the right thing." Check out my latest report from CHRT discussing what Michigan physicians think about Medicaid redeterminations ⬇
Over 687,000 Michiganders have lost Medicaid coverage mostly due to procedural issues, not ineligibility. Hear what physicians told us about how these redeterminations could impact their practices. Discover more about the impacts and what can be done: https://lnkd.in/ddapRKrp
