  • Chugach thanks Sen. Murkowski for legislation she has proposed to resolve a split estate conflict in Prince William Sound between Chugach subsurface development rights and the federal government surface conservation rights. Chugach Chairman Sheri Buretta touched on what the Chugach Land Exchange and Oil Spill Recovery Act, if passed, would achieve 35 years after that devastating event: “Chugach and the federal government will be made whole. It’s a win-win.”

  • Today – June 23, 2024 – we celebrate the enduring legacy of our founders and the leaders who have carried on their legacy. For the last 52 years, their unwavering commitment and foresight have positioned Chugach Alaska Corporation to faithfully and successfully fulfill its mission for our shareholders and their families. In the late 1960s, a visionary group of individuals from our region came together to protect and preserve Chugach’s cultural heritage, land ownership, and create a pathway to economic prosperity for Alaska Natives in the Chugach region. This monumental effort was pivotal for Chugach in the negotiation and passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1971. Once this landmark legislation was passed, the real work began. In 1972, Cecil Barnes, Walter Meganack, John Borodkin, Vincent Kvasnikoff, and Mary Gordaoff officially established Chugach Native, Inc., later to become Chugach Alaska Corporation. Today, as we mark the 52nd Anniversary of our corporation, we thank our founders and every leader since for their hard work and dedication that has propelled Chugach towards growth and prosperity. Quyana!

  • Gwen Welch, Chugach’s Vice President of Operations, and C.J. Zane, longtime consultant and friend of Chugach, were honored to attend the renaming ceremony of Anchorage's port, which will now be known as the Don Young Port of Alaska. Held on what would have been the late Rep. Don Young’s 91st birthday and wedding anniversary, the event celebrated his immense legacy. Alaska's leaders, including his widow Anne, daughters Dawn and Joni, and Mayor Dave Bronson, paid tribute. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Gov. Mike Dunleavy also spoke and highlighted Young’s dedication to Alaska’ infrastructure and growth. The Don Young Port of Alaska is a major lifeline to the state, much like Young's unwavering commitment to Alaska throughout his distinguished career. #DonYoungPortOfAlaska #LegacyOfService

  • A huge THANK YOU to everyone who laced up and joined our Alaska Run for Women (AKRFW) team! Your support is more than a sprint—it's a marathon in the race to end breast cancer. If you haven’t joined us yet, there’s still time to hit your stride, join our team by clicking here https://bit.ly/4d95ORB, and make a donation to the AKRFW! Every step, jog, and dash brings us closer to the finish line in this vital cause! This year and last year, we ran the race as Team Tammy in honor of Tammy Morton-Bilak – our beloved friend, co-worker, and team captain of many of Chugach’s AKRFW campaigns – who passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. Tammy was a true superhero as are all who joined the AKRFW this year and every year. A heartfelt thank you to Tammy’s family and loved ones who joined us for Chugach’s 2024 AKFRW team photo! We’ll see everyone at the race on June 8!
