This morning, Mayor Robert Sullivan had the great privilege of meeting with United Stares Senator Elizabeth Warren along with other mayors from around the Commonwealth who support the Senator’s American Housing and Economic Mobility Act (AHEM). The American Housing and Economic Mobility Act will assist in lowering costs for renters and buyers to level the playing-field in order for working families everywhere to find a decent place to live at an affordable price. Similar to Brockton, many other municipalities across the United States are experiencing a housing shortage. This bill contains elements such as leveraging federal funding for new housing units, providing down payment assistance to those who qualify, and removing barriers that isolate communities. As a City in need of more safe and affordable housing, we commend Senator Warren for her diligent efforts to pass this bill. We are also grateful to the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) for coordinating this event and to Urban Edge for hosting us.
