Streetscape Design to begin on NE 5th Steet At this week’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting, the City Council approved an agreement with Kimley-Horn & Associates to begin streetscaping efforts on NE 5th Street between Citrus Avenue and the Crosstown Trail. The proposal is in accordance with the Dover-Kohl & Partners produced Civic Master Plan. Action Item 3.4.1 states: Reconstruct NE 5th Street in downtown to include on-street parking, wider sidewalks, streetlights, and street trees. This street section should continue the same landscaping lighting, furniture, and materials as Citrus Avenue. “Investment in and beautification of our Historic Core is of the utmost importance to our Community Redevelopment Agency” City Manager Douglas Baber said. The effort is part of an overall strategy to encourage economic redevelopment, expand the downtown business core, and encourage infill residential investment. Design efforts are anticipated to begin in late January and be completed this year. For more information, or to submit a comment or question about the project, contact Assistant City Manager Michael Manning at [email protected] . Michael Manning, MPA Douglas Baber

On Thursday, December 21, 2023, the City Council officially cut the ribbon on a brand-new gateway sign. The sign faces Highway 19 along the Crosstown Trail next to our iconic water tower and marks the entrance to the heart of our beautiful historic core. The initiative is the first of many new beautification efforts that residents will see in the coming year, with a new emphasis being placed on street trees, landscaping, on-street parking, and pedestrian improvements. Thanks to our Main Street Board of Directors and the Crystal River Community Redevelopment Agency for their partnership.
