Mayor Jessika Buell, Mayor Pro Tem Gilda Yazzi and councilor David Woodruff celebrated the city's recent purchase of Buckley Park on Thursday, Aug. 1 at the beginning of the Fort Lewis College Concert in the Park event held yesterday. Nearly 50 people, including 18 city staff, attended the most recent Engage Durango forum on Tuesday, 7/23/24. Marty Pool, the city’s sustainability manager, updated the crowd on the Energy Performance Contract that has resulted in solar panels throughout the city and numerous other energy-efficient upgrades. Candidates interested in the deputy police chief position for the Durango Police Department took part in an informal meet and greet with Police staff on Monday, July 22. The position is open now that Brice Current was promoted to police chief.

The six new pickleball courts were officially opened on Thursday, July 11, as part of the recently completed renovations at Schneider Park. The event was hosted by Parks and Recreation Director Kelly Schmidt, MSRLS, CPRE. Members of the city’s council, including Mayor Pro Tem Gilda Yazzie, councilor and former Mayor Melissa Youssef along with City Manager José R. Madrigal, ICMA-CM, and Assistant City Managers Bob Brammer and Erin Hyder joined in the fun. A big thank you to Senior Streets Operator Michael Nutt. Michael noticed a truck parked suspiciously on the grass near the Gaslight Theatre and reported it to dispatch. Thanks to his call, police officers quickly responded and apprehended the intoxicated driver who was also in possession of a prohibited weapon. #AboveAndBeyond #CityofDurango
