He has worked across the state on community engagement initiatives and locally at various levels of government. His work has been recognized by professional organizations including CAPIO, PRSA, 3MCA and CASA. Recent honors for various campaigns include 50 Years of Water Excellence, Leaks are Scary, and Water Professionals Appreciation Week—all projects focused on informing, educating, and engaging customers and the community. “Saying that I’m honored and grateful for this recognition doesn’t quite capture how I feel,” said Maurice. “In my career, I’ve been lucky to learn from some amazing people who’ve helped me become the best communications professional and leader I can be. That includes many folks in our CAPIO community. Being part of CAPIO has changed things for me. And I’m thankful I can give back in a field I love, helping others grow and ensuring government communications are top-notch.” Congrats Maurice!

As part of a collaborative effort with the Utility Exploration Center (UEC), a middle school in Roseville has embarked on an educational journey focused on utilities and environmental sustainability called "Take Action." The program's name speaks for itself. UEC staff work with 6th to 8th graders at Chilton Middle School, engaging them in hands-on learning to understand the impact of their actions on utility systems and the ecosystem. Students then create campaigns based on their newfound knowledge, using various art forms to express their ideas.

Turf conversions are a great way to save water. Through Roseville's Cash for Grass program, we've transformed many square feet of turf into water-efficient landscapes. Recently, we partnered with a local landscape company to replace grass with sustainable alternatives at a shopping center along a busy corridor in Roseville. With this landscape change, the amount of water saved could provide water to an average Roseville home for more than four years.

As we observe Water Awareness Month, it's essential to reflect on the need to maintain water supply reliability through increased infrastructure, redundant water supplies, and reduction in overall water use, especially in regions facing growing challenges due to climate change. The commitment to ensuring a reliable water supply in Roseville is deeply ingrained in the city's history, dating back to the early 1900s when we acquired a private water company. Today, Roseville's water utility remains dedicated to providing quality service while proactively addressing the evolving dynamics of water management.

We are incredibly proud of our employees who consistently excel both on and off the clock. One shining example of this dedication is Ray Molina. Ray is a familiar face in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries department. He has worked in Parks for more than 16 years and enjoys his role in Park Development. Ray is a driven by passion and family. But it’s what Ray does in his spare time that takes his love for competition and sports to a new level. One day, while taking kids to school, he stumbled upon the All-American Speedway in Roseville. Fascinated by the speed and camaraderie, he decided he wanted to get behind the wheel in the world of NASCAR's F4 division series. "It's the thrill, the adrenaline," says Parks Inspector Ray Molina. "It's why I race." The F4 series takes drivers on a high-octane journey around a short track, testing their skills and nerves with speeds reaching up to 70+ miles per hour. "It's always fun to be competitive and win," Ray says with a smile. "Anyone can get out there, find their limits.” Ray bought a car from a local driver and dove headfirst into the world of racing. “For me, the allure of cars packed together, side by side, and bumper to bumper is just irresistible,” he adds. The first few years were a learning curve. After power steering failures and his car being pinned to the wall, Ray decided to take a break, but he just couldn’t stay away. Following his return to the track eight years ago, Ray has won an impressive five championships. But racing isn't just about the thrill of victory; for him it's a family affair. With his son Matthew (who also works for Parks) following in his footsteps, racing has become a bond between the two of them. Sharing the track with Matthew, they’re an impressive duo. "One year, we were racing together, and my car flipped over," Ray recalls. "Matthew stopped his car and came running over to make sure I was okay. I told him to get out there and win and he did. It was an emotional victory for both of us." For Ray and his loved ones, racing isn't just a hobby—it's a way of life. With their team, fittingly named One Piece Racing, their goal is to bring their cars and themselves, back in one piece. "Racing has a huge family atmosphere," he reflects. "Everyone is willing to help each other, and you feel like you have someone to lean on." Ray is also very encouraging to anyone who may be thinking about getting behind the wheel, “Just get in and do it, and don't be defeated. This is something that I don't ever think I will stop doing." You can check Ray out on the track during the F4 season which runs from March through October.
