Experience LIFE in the Park!

About us

Experience LIFE in the Park! St. Louis Park's convenient location as a neighbor to Minneapolis means you're only minutes away from some of the Twin Cities' most attractive amenities: the Chain of Lakes, the downtown theater district, shopping, universities and major league sports. St. Louis Park is an established community of 10.8 square miles. In a little more than 115 years, it's grown from a village of 45 families to a community of just under 49,000 residents. St. Louis Park has a sound economic base, a healthy mix of new and traditional housing, and a nationally renowned school district – where every school has been named a National School of Excellence. Residential areas comprise the largest portion of the community. These residential areas are diverse in their social, religious and ethnic heritage – giving every neighborhood a distinct appearance and feel. St. Louis Park is also home to retail stores, restaurants, medical facilities, family-owned businesses, corporations, and churches and synagogues. St. Louis Park is also proud of the numerous trails and parks in the community. The many trails connect us to downtown Minneapolis, the Uptown area, Hopkins and Chaska. There are 52 parks throughout the city to enjoy (11.5 percent of St. Louis Park's land is set aside for parks). These parks provide recreation, community space and beauty to all St. Louis Park residents in any season. Residents of St. Louis Park enjoy a multitude of different social and recreational activities to participate in, along with diverse religious, economic and education systems. The options are endless in St. Louis Park. Likewise, the City of St. Louis Park is a place to live for a lifetime.

In a CTS webinar about the study, engineering project manager Jack Sullivan shared his perspective on the speed limit changes: https://lnkd.in/egbKZVqb

Mark Oestreich, Westwood Hills Nature Center manager, was awarded the Gil Braun Community Service Award by the St. Louis Park Rotary Club this June. The annual award spotlights exemplary community leadership and service in the City of St. Louis Park. Oestreich joined Westwood Hills Nature Center as a naturalist in 1990, becoming manager of the nature center 10 years later. He played a major role in the planning of the state-of-the-art, zero-energy certified interpretive center built at Westwood in 2020. He’s dedicated his years of service to teaching, sharing and promoting the world of nature around him to visitors and students of all ages. As an active member of the Minnesota Naturalists' Association and Association for Nature Center Administrators, he continues to be a model to others in the field.

Westwood Hills Nature Center junior naturalists were recognized Aug. 19 by the St. Louis Park City Council for their service to the community this summer! 40 youth volunteers served in the junior naturalist program this summer. Collectively, they volunteered over 1,400 hours. The junior naturalist program has been part of Westwood Hills Nature Center for 33 years. The program is designed to foster responsibility, community service, initiative, teamwork and leadership skills in youth grades 7–12. This year, the junior naturalists helped serve 470 summer camp participants, maintained the upper water garden and waterfall area and took care of the nature center’s educational animals. In addition to being recognized by the city council, the junior naturalists received a letter of recommendation and a celebration in appreciation of their service.

Last week St. Louis Park city leaders and staff spent the night visiting about 130 neighborhood parties and building relationships with community members. And, as a community, we were able to collect 686 lbs of food for STEP (St. Louis Park Emergency Program). National Night Out helps strengthen neighborhood spirit, build police-community partnerships, heighten crime prevention awareness and generate support for anti-crime programs. The simple act of getting to know your neighbors makes your neighborhood a safer place to live. Thank you all for making the night so memorable and rewarding!
