Ready for some outdoor dining under a beautiful covering? The Aire Restaurant & Catering outdoor pergola is now ready! Thanks to funding from Mayor Shaunna O'Connell, the Taunton Municipal Airport restaurant now has a wonderful outdoor covering just in time for end of summer/fall dinner and engagements. Airport Commissioners, Airport Manager Jay D'Espinosa in addition to Aire owner Chef Charles Hermann CEC and Mayor Shaunna O'Connell commemorated the new pergola Wednesday morning as the Chef geared up for the fall season ahead. With patrons already heading outdoors at the restaurant, the pergola will solidify how excellent of a spot it is now that the days and evenings are cooling down. There's nothing like an outdoor meal and a drink and now you can have that at Aire!

Anyone ready for some performing arts plays and musicals in downtown Taunton? TPAC-Taunton Performing Arts Center is ready for its first production next month! Mayor Shaunna O’Connell is proud to welcome the newly-formed Taunton Performing Arts Center (TPAC) located at 21 Main Street in Taunton. The center represents a unique collaboration between Applause Academy owner Tim Knief and Middleboro Nemasket River Productions owner Natalie Cabral. Mayor O’Connell was pleased to provide a $40,000 grant from ARPA funds to support the new performing arts company. The grant assisted in constructing new changing rooms, staging, and renovating rehearsal spaces. “We are thrilled to welcome TPAC to downtown Taunton,” said Mayor O’Connell. “This partnership will enhance our cultural landscape and provide new opportunities for our community to engage with the performing arts. We are committed to supporting the growth of the arts and ensuring that Taunton remains a vibrant, creative city.” As a non-profit theater organization, TPAC remains dedicated to educating, inspiring, and igniting passion for theater among community members. "This merger represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide outstanding theatrical experiences and educational opportunities. By combining our resources, talent, and expertise, we will offer even more performances, workshops, and programs while still upholding our high-quality production value. TPAC is a celebration of our shared commitment to the arts and our dedication to fostering a thriving cultural environment. We are confident that this union will bring about a new era of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the City of Taunton and Mayor O'Connell for their support and enthusiasm,” said TPAC founders Tim Knief and Natalie Cabral. TPAC is set to commence its inaugural season in October with the highly anticipated production of “Rocky Horror Picture Show: The Musical,” which will begin on Friday, October 25. TPAC plans to stage six productions per year, including three traditional plays and three musicals. Upcoming performances include “Talk Radio,” “Into the Woods,” and Shakespeare’s “Merry Wives of Windsor.” Performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm with Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm and tickets will be available for $25 each. In addition to the performances, TPAC plans to apply for a liquor license to serve alcohol during shows and hopes to collaborate with area restaurants to offer discounts to patrons attending the performances. “Join us for an unforgettable journey of arts and culture. Registration is now open at www.thetpac.org. Check out our full schedule and grab your spot today. We can’t wait to see you at TPAC!" said TPAC Operations Manager Jenna Medeiros. Don't forget The Rocky Horror Picture Show: The Musical, up first on Friday, October 25th, a great feature for Halloween-time!

Whittenton Mills Re-development project-Greystar development Thanks to a City Council vote on Tuesday night that allowed for the developer Greystar www.greystar.com to secure a tax increment exemption, this will pave the way for the redevelopment of the 36-acre site known as Whittenton Mills. This site, which saw one of its buildings fall down in last years wind storm, has seen a dozen incarnations of hopeful development with a trigger that was never even itched. Today, this one is different and this project, once complete, will be the biggest the city has ever seen. The Watertown-based Greystar, which has developed and maintained more than a million apartments, plans a 390-unit development at the Whittenton Mills site, including 62 percent one-bedroom/studio units as well as 2-and 3- bedroom units. The site will also include green space, a walking trail and potential soccer field, basketball court (both for public use) and a commercial component that will likely include a restaurant and some retail (we tried for a supermarket but it didn't work). With 62 percent of the apartments being one-bedroom/studio apartments, the impact on the school system plans to be between roughly 55-65 children. The initial proposal included 700 apartments but Mayor Shaunna O'Connell asked the developers to go back, lower the number of units, create some green space as well as a commercial component and have some areas there that will be open to the public. Greystar will spend at least $10M to clean up the site, which likely contains some contamination, including demolishing all the mill buildings-more than a dozen, before even sticking a shovel in the ground. For the city, that alone was monumental, to have a developer come in willing to clean a site to that magnitude, is huge. Greystar said they plan to keep the smokestack though, which has a number of cell phone company contracts. While the plan you see below is a "conceptual site plan", next up we will be working with Greystar on their final project site plan that they will eventually present to the Taunton Planning Board. Greystar noted that once the demolition is complete, it will take roughly 18-20 months to construct the apartments and commercial space. More to come...
