Small businesses continue to boom in Wood Dale! Ribbon-cutting events help the city recognize its investment in the community. Are you looking for a reliable local plumbing service in Wood Dale? Eureka! Franzen Plumbing Inc. cracked the code to plumbing perfection. Franzen Plumbing has been in business since 2018 and recently moved to Wood Dale at 650 N. Edgewood Ave. They are a family-owned and operated business – with Tim and Celia Franzen (husband and wife) leading the organization. The family has quite a connection to Wood Dale, making it an obvious choice to settle their growing business. If the Franzen name seems familiar, it’s most likely because the Franzen family owned the Franzen farm, formerly located on Wood Dale Road. Today, a portion of the property remains under the name “Franzen Grove” as it is part of the Wood Dale Park District. Tim grew up in Wood Dale, and it remains a special City for him – especially because Mom and Dad (Fred Franzen) live nearby and are very supportive of the business. Fred is often referred to as the “shop Dad” and is extremely handy as he built many of the shelving units in the shop with his own hands. Tim and Celia are supported by an incredible team, including Erica Franzen, the general manager and supreme ribbon-cutting tour guide. The office is managed by the wonderfully organized Carrie, who is Tim's sister. Yesterday, the City Council and Staff hosted a luncheon at the Wood Dale Park District for the Senior Club during their monthly meeting. While our goal was to sponsor and serve the lunch, it was a joy to attend the meeting. The senior club made several announcements, provided updates, and acknowledged their August birthdays. There were copious pancakes, hashbrowns, fresh fruit, and bacon! 🥞🥓No one left hungry….We promise! City staff had the opportunity to present and share details on "everything you need to know" regarding requesting a building permit in the Community Development Department and senior programs and discounts through the Public Works and Finance Departments. Thank you to Meet Chicago Northwest for hosting the annual Hotel Summit. It was a pleasure to have Wood Dale's Staci Springer, AICP sit on the Economic Development panel and provide an update on the exciting things happening in Wood Dale. Guest speaker Joie Chitwood III, Executive Director of the PGA Cup, and keynote speaker Michael Jacobson, President and CEO of the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association, shared a wealth of information. The work they are doing to ignite and support the hospitality industry is greatly appreciated throughout the state of Illinois. We appreciate MCNW and their support of hotel executives who want to know which businesses are coming and going in the community. Including big businesses that could bring construction workers and/or business travelers, as well as other hospitality businesses like hotels and restaurants to our City. The City of Wood Dale would like to sincerely thank Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi for providing a grant totaling $959,752 to update the City's Water Distribution System. These improvements will update our current system to Clean Water Act standards while improving water efficiency and reducing waste. While the check was presented today, the work will begin in fiscal year 2025. Thank you to our many friends and esteemed guests who took the time to celebrate with the City and the Congressman. Last night, the Wood Dale City Council and City staff hosted our annual Committee Recognition Dinner. We welcomed about 90 Committee members, including their guests. Hosting this event helps the City recognize and celebrate committee members and their volunteerism throughout the year. Their work includes attending and contributing to scheduled committee meetings and assisting at various special events. Our committee members are indeed ambassadors for the City and care for the community. The City special events team welcomed guests and was then greeted by the wonderful Wood Dale Park District staff at Salt Creek Golf Club. The ambiance was perfect, and the food and service was terrific.
