Last week, Mayor Sorace, along with Rep. Smith-Wade-El and Commissioner Yoder, met with Lt. Governor Austin Davis at the Bench Mark Program in Lancaster. As part of the new state budget, the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime & Delinquency (PCCD) is investing in more violence intervention and prevention programs, such as the ones offered by Bench Mark for local youth. “Gun violence has no place in Pennsylvania. In Lancaster, our Officers are getting illegal guns off the street, and community organizations like Bench Mark are leaning into youth engagement in new ways. I am pleased the Shapiro-Davis Administration and the PACCD are equipping Lancaster with more tools to keep our community safe. Curbing gun violence must be an all-hands-on-deck effort," said Mayor Danene Sorace. Read more at https://lnkd.in/epMaxvhw #cityoflancasterpa #safeplaces

About us
A relatively small city of 7 square miles and 60,000 residents, Lancaster City is located within driving distance of Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Delaware beaches and the Jersey shore. But the City of Lancaster is about so much more than our geographic location. Lancaster City is a place where historic preservation and a cutting-edge arts scene live and thrive side by side; a city of neighborhoods that are safe and welcoming; a city that encourages entrepreneurship and investment; a city that values the cultural, ethnic, and diverse identities of our residents and guests.

A home rule charter is essentially a constitution for Pennsylvania cities that adopt 'home rule' as its form of government. What's included in a home rule charter? Here are some basic components. ➡ the basic organization of the government (structure of the mayor, city council, etc.) ➡ a general grant of powers to the municipality (such as taxation) ➡ specification of critical legislations and administrative procedures (such as creating a budget) ➡ provision for citizen participation and reservation of specific powers to voters (such as referendums) ➡ mandates for desirable administrative practices Learn more at https://lnkd.in/edKwScaN Save the dates for the upcoming Home Rule Information Sessions on July 29, July 31, and August 6. *Posted on behalf of the independent Home Rule Study Commission, an elected, 9-member commission of Lancaster residents.
