Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease of profound public health importance. I am excited to share our research findings on Leptospira seroreactivity in free-roaming community cats and owned cats in Hong Kong. The overall seroprevalence was 9.35% and was significantly higher among community (13.3%) than privately-owned cats (4.9%; OR 2.98 [95% CI 1.68–5.25], P < 0.001), especially to serogroup Javanica (7.65% of community cats versus 0.58% of privately-owned cats (P < 0.001). Cats in Hong Kong are exposed to a diversity of different serovars (14 of 22 tested) and one in three seroreactive community cats with paired urine and blood samples had leptospiruria. Cats can silently shed Leptospira and we should wear gloves when handling their urine. #feline #onehealth https://lnkd.in/gX9sDNET

Day 2 of #ISFMCongress24 left us with stars in our eyes 🤩 after a full day of feline-focused CPD! 🐈 Ursula Dietrich shared her expertise on feline conjunctivitis, glaucoma, uveitis and retinal disease in the Main Congress Stream, and was joined by Paulo Steagall and Renata Stavinohová for a panel discussion on triage and management of the traumatic eye. A top triage tip: “Sometimes there could be multiple injuries and you could miss these if you don’t look properly and lift up the eyelid.” 🔬 Delegates also took a deep dive into advanced ophthalmic surgery with Renata Stavinohová and feline hepatitis-B virus with Julia Beatty in the Advanced Stream, before exploring chronic pain in cats with the 2023 winner of the JFMS Resident Best Paper Award, Beatriz P Monteiro (sponsored by Zoetis UK). 😿 Unable to join us in person?
