🔌 Did you know that the NEC arena in Birmingham is being renamed by bp? Just 2 weeks after BP announced the sponsorship agreement in June, BP paused its offshore wind projects to focus on oil and gas. The UK arena will be rebranded as the ‘bp pulse LIVE’ arena as BP takes over the sponsorship, making it an EV-themed venue. ⏩ It’s official – Havas lost its coveted B Corporation status after a B Lab review in response to its work with Shell. ❓What did Havas say about it? Havas said it’s proud to support its clients in their ‘transformation for the future’. 😵💫  So how is Shell actually ‘transforming’ the future? Mainly by polluting more. 👏 BREAKING NEWS: B Lab has officially revoked Havas’ B Corp certification in response to its work with fossil fuel polluter, Shell. Havas London, Havas Lemz, Havas New York, and Havas Immerse are no longer Certified B Corps. This decision follows pressure from 27 B Corps in the Clean Creatives network, as well as many other professionals and creatives advocating for urgent climate action across the Ad & PR industry. This wouldn’t have been possible without them. We want to thank B Lab for making the right call to protect their standards from agencies that want to use the certification as cover for greenwashing. We hope to see similar decisions made for other B Corp agencies that continue to work with fossil fuel polluters. B Lab said that “We thank the complainants in this case for their role in the investigation and encourage individuals with concerns about Certified B Corps to continue to use B Lab’s Public Complaint Process.” 🖊️ If you work in the Ad & PR industry and want to see Havas drop its fossil fuel clients next, you can sign the Clean Creatives pledge at cleancreatives.org

Earlier this week we shared that yet more #BCorporation agencies are working with fossil fuel companies. Here’s some of the reaction we’ve gotten so far: ⏮️ Last October alongside 27 #BCorps in the Clean Creatives network we submitted a complaint to B Lab regarding several B Corp agencies, including those in the Havas network, who we found working with fossil fuel polluters.  While that review continues, we’ve found other examples of B Corps promoting polluters, including: 👉 Edit working with Shell on direct marketing 👉 SEC Newgate lobbying on behalf of 10 different fossil fuel companies 👉 Tinkle Communications (Havas subsidiary) promoting Spanish oil major 👉 Repsol 👉 Total Media working with gas distributor E.On In addition, we found another relationship with fossil fuels at the agency MSQ that was not included in the previous letter to B Lab, with British Gas. The case for excluding fossil fuel agencies from B Corp certification could not be clearer. The work these B Corp agencies are doing for fossil fuel polluters includes greenwashing gas companies, direct lobbying on behalf of coal producers, and pushing consumers to buy more gasoline. 🌐 United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has called out the Ad & PR industry for the second time in 3 weeks, asking agencies to ‘look for clients who aren’t misleading people and destroying our planet’. On June 5th 2024, Guterres said “Your sector is full of creative minds who are already mobilizing around this cause. They are gravitating towards companies that are fighting for our planet – not trashing it”.
