An estimated 5 million bars of soap are thrown away every day by hotels in the United States. This is why Clean the World is dedicated to turning trash into treasure! We create new bars of soap out of soap that would otherwise end up in landfill. This allows us to partner with charities, such as The WASH Foundation, to get essential hygiene items in the hands of those who need them most! Clean the World is delighted to support the Green Hotel Club (GHC), a foundation that promotes collaboration on sustainability in Amsterdam with the ambition is to create thriving, high-quality and future-proof hospitality businesses within planetary boundaries. This collaboration stems from Clean the World’s active involvement in the City of Amsterdam’s 2023 Impact Deal initiative that supports various crucial social and environmental objectives. All participants within the network recognizes the urgency and necessity of climate change and actively contribute to the sustainable transition. Everyone does this in their own way which is feasible within their sphere of influence. Each hotel has its own sustainable ambitions and goals and, in doing so, priorities. As a network, they therefore offer this variety of themes and thus projects, so that everyone can connect what is best suited for his/her hotel. Sharing this knowledge, expertise and experience creates cross-fertilization. We truly hope that, in the coming times, more hotels from the Green Hotel Club will participate in the recycling program, driving impact within the city of Amsterdam. The Surprising Afterlife of Used Hotel Soap !! This Factory Gives New Life to Used Hotel Soap Let’s delve into the fascinating world of hotel soap recycling and explore how small soaps are often wasted. Then, I’ll ask for insights from our LinkedIn audience. 🌿 The Hidden Waste: When you settle into a hotel room, one of the first things you likely notice is the neatly packaged bar of soap on the bathroom counter. These tiny bars are the most-utilized amenity at hotels, with 86% of guests using them during their stay. Surprisingly, they outrank other popular offerings like in-room TVs, hair dryers, and valet parking However, here’s the catch: Most guests leave behind sizable, half-used chunks of soap. Imagine the scale of this problem—there are approximately 5 million hotel rooms in the US alone, and pre-pandemic, the average occupancy rate was around 66%. That means hotels go through roughly 3.3 million bars of soap every day The Soap Recycling Revolution: Shawn Seipler’s Quest: Fourteen years ago, Shawn Seipler, a frequent business traveler, pondered the fate of unused hotel room soap. He discovered that most hotels simply threw it away, contributing to the staggering 440 billion pounds of solid waste generated annually by the hospitality industry. That’s equivalent to the weight of 2 million blue whales The Solution: Seipler couldn’t let this wasteful practice continue. Armed with determination, he embarked on a mission. Here’s how it unfolded: Collection and Salvage: Seipler and his friends visited hotels, collecting bags of half-used toiletries. They set up a makeshift workshop in a single-car garage, where they scraped the outside of soap bars, ground them up, and melted them down. Transformation:🌎✨ The recycled soap was molded into new, sterile bars. These bars met hygiene standards and were safe for use. Global Impact: Clean the World, Seipler’s nonprofit organization, now collaborates with hotels worldwide. The sanitized soap is distributed to schools, clinics, and communities in need across the globe LinkedIn Insights💡✨: Now, let’s turn to our LinkedIn audience: Have you ever thought about the environmental impact of hotel soap waste? What creative solutions can we explore to reduce waste in the hospitality industry? Share your insights and ideas in the comments below! #climatechange #healthcare #productivity #management #money

In 2009, after countless nights spent in hotel rooms for work, Founder and CEO of Clean the World Global Shawn Seipler stumbled upon a simple yet transformative question: 'What happens to leftover soap in hotel rooms?' I just learned two fascinating facts… or at least I think they are. Let me know what you think… Fact #1: Did you know that every single day, more than 2 million bars of partially used hotel soap are thrown away in the United States? I discovered this while volunteering with Clean the World as part of a community service program with APCO International during APCO 2024. I helped recycle the wasted hotel soap and send it to communities overseas where affordable hygiene has become life-threatening. Fact #2: Soap operas got their name because, for decades, the only advertisements during these shows were from soap companies. Who knew? I told my wife the advertising fact and she didn’t think that was interesting at all, lol. Is it not? :)

Embracing #TeamMVW’s spirit to serve! 💙 This summer, intern teams in Orlando, FL volunteered their time with Clean the World, packaging over 43,000 bars of soap for those in need around the world. This hands-on experience was not only a chance for them to contribute to a global cause but also an inspiring reminder of the impact we have when we work together.
