Setting the standard in laboratory medicine for a healthier world.
About us
A not-for-profit membership organization, the CLSI brings together the global laboratory community for a common cause: fostering excellence in laboratory medicine. CLSI helps to create standards and guidelines that provide laboratories with documents—print and electronic, companion products, educational resources, and support for international accreditation. Together, we guide the development and implementation of standards and guidelines that help all laboratories fulfill their responsibilities with efficiency, effectiveness, and global applicability.

In the ongoing battle against antibiotic resistance, it's crucial to ensure that our agricultural practices are not contributing to the problem. Recently, I used a simple yet effective method for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) using blank discs and antibiotic stocks. By preparing tetracycline and streptomycin solutions according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)'s standard, I've been able to determine the susceptibility of my Enterobacterales isolates from compost and lettuce fertilized with cattle manure. This approach provides immediate insights into the effectiveness of commonly used agricultural antibiotics. By understanding which antibiotics are most effective against these isolates, we can better manage the use of antibiotics in agriculture, reducing the risk of promoting resistant strains. #antimicrobialresistance #AMR #research #microbiology

6 years of learning, collaborating and contributing as a member of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) during which I have had the opportunity to participate as a volunteer technical expert in the GP44 guide and currently as a volunteer expert in GP31 and GP41. This experience has been unique in knowledge, growth and contributions in the pre-analytical phase. This has driven me to work to achieve implementation and standards through pre-analytical guides in Mexico and Central America, thus encouraging laboratory professionals to implement good pre-examination practices at different levels of clinical care in the laboratory, creating continuous improvement with an impact on patient and sample safety. Pre-analytical quality must be focused and standardized with high quality, creating professional and accessible spaces and forums for laboratory medicine experts in Latin America. 🇲🇽👩🏻🔬 #latam #CLSI #calidad #medicinadelaboratorio

Dr. Wilson Mtotela-DBA, MBA, HBMLS is one of CLSI’s greatest champions and is an incredible force in helping laboratories in Africa to achieve excellence! We are so proud to have him on our team!
Last week, I had the pleasure of training a group of dedicated professionals on Internal Quality control based on risk and Method Verification, utilizing the comprehensive suite of CLSI documents, such as EP 15A3, and EP06. Empowering laboratories with these essential tools is not just a job—it’s my passion. Ensuring accurate and reliable results is critical to advancing healthcare, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this vital work.

Since the final FDA ruling on Laboratory Developed Tests was published on 06 May 2024, there has been a great deal of discussion around the interpretation and implications of the new oversight. Reportedly, it is just 10 words that have changed. Find out why it's caused so much turmoil in The FDA Ruling on LDTs: Taking Control of What's in Your Control.
