Yizhou is pursuing a master of regional planning at Cornell University with a minor in real estate. This summer, Yizhou is excited to contribute to impactful transportation projects and to learn from the experienced professionals at CMAP. She looks forward to expanding her skills in transportation modeling and understanding the intricacies of urban planning in a dynamic metropolitan context. After her internship, Yizhou plans to leverage her experience at CMAP to pursue a career in transportation planning, focusing on sustainable and equitable transportation systems. The insights and practical skills she will gain here will be invaluable in shaping resilient urban communities. Outside of the office, Yizhou loves to paint. Say hello as we continue to welcome our new #CMAPInterns! Lily Stankevicius (she/her/hers) is a data collection intern at CMAP. Lily is an undergraduate student at Miami University majoring in environmental science, urban planning, and geographic sustainable development. She is also minoring in film studies. Lily is thrilled about her summer internship at CMAP because it offers an opportunity to learn the impacts of planning and the unique contributions of each division within the agency. She plans to accomplish this by actively engaging with colleagues, seeking mentorships, and contributing her best efforts to the agency’s mission. Lily aims to integrate her CMAP experiences into her academic pursuits. Lily is not only a student of urban planning but has also studied German language and culture for more than four years. Join us in celebrating CMAP Executive Director Erin Aleman, who is in the national spotlight after being recognized for her leadership and excellence in state and regional planning! The National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) awarded Erin with its Walter Scheiber Leadership Award at NARC’s annual conference in Atlanta. Erin was recognized for strengthening the capacity of communities across the region through direct training, technical assistance, planning, and implementation support. Say hello and welcome to our new #CMAPInterns! Ana Jaramillo (she/her/hers) is a communications and engagement intern. Ana is in her senior year of undergraduate school at Lake Forest College. She is majoring in communications with a double minor in entrepreneurship and digital media design. During her internship, Ana wants to learn more about urban planning and the internal and external communications at CMAP. By exploring CMAP’s various focus areas, Ana hopes to get a general feel for working in a government institution. She looks forward to gaining experience writing professionally, putting together social media content, and creating graphics and visuals, since these are necessary skills in her field of study. Outside of communications, Ana is into long-distance running, a hobby she’s picked up in the past year. Amelia is a graduate student at the University of Denver’s online program. She is studying GIS. This summer, Amelia is excited to get hands-on experience participating in some of the agency’s GIS projects and managing GIS data. She hopes her internship at CMAP will help her continue pursuing GIS opportunities in the public sector. CMAP Executive Director Erin Aleman was among the panelists exploring the future of regional mobility this week at a forum at the Union League Club of Chicago. American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois Erin was joined by RTA Chair Kirk Dillard, Illinois State Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado (D), and Illinois State Senator Donald P. DeWitte (R). The moderator was Fox 32 Chicago political reporter Paris Schutz. CMAP looks forward to continued conversations with the General Assembly, transit partners, and others about how we can achieve a safe, reliable, robust transit system that meets the needs of northeastern Illinois.

Say hello as we continue to meet our new #CMAPInterns! Anukriti Mehta (she/her) is a planning intern. Anukriti is a graduate student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is studying for a master of urban planning. During her internship, Anukriti is excited to take on diverse real-life projects and contribute to the goals of CMAP, which align with her interests. She hopes to gain valuable experience in various aspects of planning from transportation to land use that positively impact the community, and to learn from the experiences and perspectives of practicing planners. She also looks forward to interacting with the community through the Future Leaders in Planning (FLIP) program and various community outreach programs. After her internship, Anukriti plans to use the practical skills, experience, and insights she gets from CMAP to understand the complexities of the urban environment and leverage her knowledge for the upcoming academic year, during which she will complete her capstone project. Her internship experience will also play a vital role in her career as a professional practitioner after graduation.
